There are around 8 to 9 hours of sunshine every single day during October and that’s great news for anyone looking for a beach holiday as you can be certain of getting a tan.

If you intend to explore the central region, it means that you can expect fewer cloudy and overcast days which means great light for rice terraces, waterfalls, temples, etc.

Relative Humidity Levels

Bali is a tropical island and it’s relatively humid all year long. However, the humidity is manageable in October and between 79-80% all month long.

Given the average temperature of this month, we’d recommend that you stick to light, breathable clothing so that it’s easier for perspiration to evaporate on your skin and cool you down.

Average Sea Temperature

The average sea temperature this month is between 27 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius (that’s 81 – 82 degrees Fahrenheit) which is perfect if you want to swim in the sea or undertake any kind of watersports such as surfing.

It’s not hot enough to feel like swimming in a bath, though, the water is pleasant and refreshing on a hot day.

Just make sure to check the flag indicators on the beach to ensure it’s safe to swim, if it’s not, you’re never far from a great pool in Bali.

  • West Bali National Park – take advantage of the Bali weather this month and head to the national park and see if you can see the critically endangered Bali starling or some of the native deer species.

  • Nusa Penida – if you want to see the mola-mola fish (the ocean sunfish – one of the largest fish in the world) or the manta rays for which Nusa Penida is famous, then October is a great time to explore this island off the coast of the mainland. If you do decide to spread your wings and visit the Nusa Islands we recommend staying overnight in one of the many villas or rooms on the island and once the majority of the tourists go home, these islands offer a very pleasant and relaxing break from the world at large.

  • Mount Batur – October is one of the best times of year to hike one of the active volcanoes in Bali and a trip up Mount Batur is much less dangerous than you might imagine. It’s a relatively easy hike that can be undertaken by anyone with a reasonable level of physical fitness and a complete range of mobility. The weather means that if you undertake the trip your view from the summit of Mount Batur should be cloud-free and you’re unlikely to be troubled by sudden showers during the ascent. The temperature on the mountain is a bit cooler than on the coast, though, so you might want to take a light jacket or hoodie with you. If that doesn’t appeal, check out our list of the best hikes in Bali for further inspiration.

  • Ubud – if you want to find somewhere a bit more cool than the beaches, you can always visit Ubud and enjoy some culture. You could also head out into the rice fields, go white water rafting on one of the rivers nearby, hike Campuhan Ridge or explore the sacred monkey forest.

It really depends on what you want to do, you don’t need to pack anything special for October in Bali and if you just intend to lounge on the beach and maybe visit Nusa Penida then some lightweight clothing, sunscreen and comfy shoes should be all you need.

Of course, if you want to swim or surf, then you should consider bringing swimwear too.

However, if you want to get out to some waterfalls or climb Mount Batur during your time here, then it’s a good idea to bring a solid pair of hiking shoes with good grips too.

You may also want to pack a lightweight rain mac but we’d recommend opting for one of those handy Indonesian ponchos that you can buy on any street corner in a shower for a very low cost.
