Looking for a decent budget hotel in Bali but don’t know where to start?
We’ve looked around to find some of the best hotels that you can stay in without breaking the bank, take a look and see if there’s anything you like.
What’s A Budget Hotel In Bali?
Bali may be getting more expensive as it becomes more popular, but you can still find plenty of great accommodation for under $30 US a night ($45 AUS). That’s what we’ve set our threshold at for this article.
Here we’ve listed 24 of what we consider the best budget hotels, places that are affordable but still comfortable and enjoyable to stay in. Note, this is not a ranked list and we think every hotel on this list would be a great place to stay.
24 Best Budget Hotels In Bali
Lotus Tirta – Seminyak
Right in the heart of Seminyak, this hotel has everything you need such as a swimming pool and balcony. A modern building with local Balinese design, this hotel only boasts 14 rooms, keeping the personal feel. The staff here stand out as particularly friendly and helpful.
With the hotel being in the heart of Seminyak, there’s no shortage of restaurants, coffee shops and other hangouts nearby, including one of our favourite smoothie bowl joints, Nalu Bowls, which is less than a 10-minute walk away!
There is also room service available at this hotel, and for an add-on price, you can have breakfast delivered to your room, not bad for a budget hotel!

Parthi Puri – Ubud
This bed and breakfast hotel is located just outside the centre of Ubud, in a scenic area surrounded by rice fields. With your private bungalow and the surrounding tranquillity, this is somewhere to relax and find your inner peace.
The hotel itself looks beautiful with its traditional Balinese decor and provides everything guests need such as free breakfast, free wifi, laundry service, and something that we think is great for a budget hotel: an airport shuttle service.
In the immediate area near the hotel are several yoga retreats, small eateries and warungs. It’s only a short drive away from Monkey Forest Ubud, and there are many waterfalls nearby which we love, as we’re sure most of you do too!

Swiss-Belhotel Rainforest – Legian
From the outside, this hotel looks like a mid-range hotel. The attention to detail is very good, with the hotel and staff always making an effort on both local and western holidays.
Whilst located slightly away from the beach, the hotel is in the heart of Legian, surrounded by shops, restaurants and other hotels. Offering wifi, a flat-screen TV and balconies, as well as a pool and even a gym, we think this is a great hotel for the money. Previous guests have mentioned the buffet breakfast as fantastic.

A fantastic homestay at a great price run by a nice family. A no-frills accommodation which is clean and comfortable.

Kamboja Homestay – Sanur
This small homestay-style hotel sits down a local street within walking distance of Sanur Beach and a little south of Karang Beach.
This cheap hotel has everything you’d expect from a small, friendly homestay, and even boasts its own swimming pool, which we can tell you is very chilled out and relaxing.
The in-house warung has some great food, and it’s a nice place to have some food after a long day at the beach or by the pool, then enjoy a beer or two on your own or with other guests whilst watching the world go by.
If you’re stopping by the Sanur area for a few days then we definitely recommend this hotel.

This quaint hotel in central Ubud is one of those budget hotels we could’ve quite happily stayed in for a long time. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff was so friendly and accommodating.
With the serene Ubud atmosphere around you, it’s a great place to sit on the balcony and work, if that’s something you do whilst you travel. The free breakfast and air-conditioned rooms make it all the more comfortable to stay.
If you fancy a bit of culture then just around the corner are the famous Ubud Palace and Ubud Water Palace – not many budget hotels in Bali can make this claim – and Monkey Forest is only about 30 minutes walk away.

After seeing the beautiful Sky Lounge on the Horison Ultima rooftop, we weren’t sure how this place fell into the category of “cheap hotels”, because it looks anything but cheap. With its jacuzzi and in-house catering this spot could make the perfect romantic getaway.
It’s closest to Double Six Beach, although Seminyak Beach is also an easy walk. As with many of the hotels in Bali, there is a range of rooms available here to suit every budget.

Guests here can enjoy these high-end amenities, and a spa, all without travelling too far from the airport. There’s also an on-site tour desk offering excursions to some of the surrounding islands where they also have hotels.

Akmani Legian – Kuta
We visited many hotels in Bali, but this was the only one to make the list which has two pools, with a shared lounge and bar area, probably not something you’d expect to find in a cheap hotel.

When we were looking for the best budget hotels in Bali, infinity pools didn’t really cross our minds as something we’d expect to find, but we did find one and the infinity pool here is amazing. That’s not the only thing this hotel has going for it though, we’re talking beautiful views, a fantastic restaurant, and even room service. This hotel has top-rated reviews for a reason, and we can see why.
Location-wise its closest beach is Kedungu Beach which you can see from the infinity pool, and just south of there is the iconic Tanah Lot sea temple.

Mimpi Cottages – Nusa Penida
This one is on Lembongan, a small island southeast of Bali forming part of Nusa Penida. (Lembongan can be accessed from Bali mainland via a short ferry ride).
Situated on a backroad about 10 minutes walk from the closest beach, Dream Beach, these huts with their thatched roofs feel a little off the beaten track. Whilst there are several cheap hotels on this road, this is more like a homestay than a hotel, and as such really gives a warm and local feel.
Don’t however be put off by the small, local atmosphere, Mimpi Cottages still has all the amenities you need such as free wifi, air-conditioning and a restaurant, all within walking distance of the beach and several restaurants and bars.

FAQs
What Is The Central Location For Things To Do In Bali?
There are so many different things to see and do in Bali, and as such there’s no central tourist location. Whether you’re looking for sandy beaches, vibrant nightlife, chilled-out culture, or surfing, Bali has it all.
Personally, we think the Berawa Beach area of Canggu is the best, there you can join us at FINNS Beach Club!
What Should I Look For When Booking A Hotel?
When booking a hotel, ask yourself what you are looking for in the hotel. An outdoor pool, a spacious room with air conditioning, a pool bar, furnished balconies, a spa?
Which areas would you like to be close to: central Ubud with its Monkey Forest, Seminyak Square, or Dreamland Beach?
Does the hotel offer free cancellation? And what do the previous guests have to say about it?
Can I Stay Somewhere Nice That Still Has Cheap Hotels?
Yes, you can. For example, if you’re looking for affordable yet upmarket beaches with high-end but not overpriced dining and nightlife then Canggu would be the place to look.
You might struggle to find somewhere like Potato Head Suites within your budget, there are plenty more places available.
As a whole, Bali arguably has some of the best cheap hotels available in the world.
Final Thoughts On Best Budget Hotels In Bali
When asking about the best affordable hotels in Bali, you should realise that a cheap hotel doesn’t mean a poor quality hotel.
As we’ve shown you in the list above, there is no shortage of affordable hotels in Bali, and you can easily find quality, high-rated accommodation whilst keeping to a sensible budget.
