Batu Belig Beach: Your Guide To The Ultimate Relaxing Nighttime Scene By The Beach

Batu Belig Beach Sunset View

Batu Belig Beach is one of the up-and-coming areas in Bali, and that’s because it’s a little more chilled out and a little less expensive than the most popular beach towns.

However, it’s not far from Seminyak and Canggu, and that means if you want the bright lights and crowds of the beach resorts, you won’t have to travel much to get them.

Batu Belig has its own excellent nightlife scene, though, and nights here are relaxing and fun with the area around the main street and beaches full of bars and restaurants with a more soft key focus than the clubs of neighbouring Seminyak.

Our guide will walk you through everything you need to know about Batu Belig and how you can get the most out of this charming place.

Where Is Batu Belig Beach?

Batu Belig is North of Seminyak and just past Petitenget. The area is quite busy, but it’s much more affordable than Seminyak.

The official address of Batu Belig is Kerobokan Kelod, Kuta Utara, Badung Regency, Bali 80361, Indonesia.

How To Get To Batu Belig Beach?

If you’re coming from the airport, then the best way to get to the area is to ask your hotel to provide an airport transfer.

This service is usually included in the price of the hotel or sometimes is charged on top. It’s not usually much more expensive than a ride share and is more convenient.

You will be met at the airport by somebody with your name on a card, and they will collect you and your bags and take you directly to your resort.

You could also consider using a ride-sharing app such as Grab or Gojek to book a ride. These apps are safe and allow you to set the fare for a ride before you book.

You can connect your cards to these apps and pay by card, too, which saves you from having to find an ATM after you land.

You could also hire a private car and driver if you’re coming from the other side of the island. This is usually a better option than a taxi or ride share for long journeys.

Finally, there’s the option that we never recommend – hiring a scooter. This is cheap, but it’s also dangerous, and the roads in Bali are hard for even experienced riders to cope with. This is a bad island to learn to ride on, and accidents are very common.

You also must be road-legal, which isn’t as easy as it sounds, or your insurer will refuse to pay out in the event of an accident.

It’s better to pay a couple of dollars more for a ride-share than thousands of dollars more for hospital bills.

When Is The Best Time To Go To Batu Belig Beach?

Beautiful sunset and silhouette of different people on the beach

There is never a bad time of year to visit Bali, and Batu Belig is lovely all year round.

In the dry season, it’s a little cooler and less humid, and we get around 10 hours of sunshine a day.

In the wet season, it’s a bit warmer and more humid, but we still see around 8 hours of sunshine a day.

That’s more than enough sunshine to enjoy the beach for the majority of the day.

Because of the location on the West Coast of Bali, the sunset here is spectacular, but the sunrise isn’t anything to write home about.

That makes this a great beach for sundowners.

However, if you want a long, uninterrupted walk along the sand, you might prefer to get here early in the day when it’s less busy.

Is There An Entrance Fee For Batu Belig Beach?

No, there’s absolutely no entrance fee at Batu Belig Beach.

If you want to use the local car park, you will need to pay a small fee, but it will be less than 15,000 IDR (or $1 USD).

If you’re staying in the area, then your hotel is almost certainly within walking distance.

What To Expect At Batu Belig Beach?

It’s a laid-back place, but as most of the people here are escaping the busier districts of Canggu and Seminyak, it has a certain vibrancy and buzz about it that you won’t find in Sanur or Lovina.
The overall area has a rustic charm to it, but we don’t expect that to last forever. The best time to visit this part of Bali is now before the developers arrive.

Things To Do At Batu Belig Beach

Seminyak Beach with Sunset View

There isn’t a whole lot going on on this beach, and you can swim, surf or take a walk.

In the evening, it’s a great place for a few sunset drinks as the sun sinks down behind the horizon.

There are some pleasant bars and pubs in the local area in the evening, but there’s none of the hectic nightlife of Seminyak here yet.

The “in place to be” is currently Cafe Del Mar, and Tropicola and Cabina are both worth a look, too.

Boutique Shops On Jalan Batubelig

The main street is Jalan Batubelig, and you will find boutique shops selling fashion, jewellery, homewares, souvenirs and more here.

There are also quite a few spas on this stretch if you want some pampering.

The area’s restaurants are great, too, with an emphasis on affordable and tasty fare. Some of our favourites include:

  • Mr Bob Bar And Grill Batu Belig – if you love tasty BBQ pork ribs, you just can’t go wrong here. The atmosphere is European style, and the food is awesome.
  • La Vecchia Tana by Italycafe – if you want pizzas, this little trattoria just off Jalan Batubelig is fantastic. They make fresh pasta and serve surprisingly good local wine with it. The prices are very reasonable too.
  • Strawberry Fields – this is one of our favourite breakfast spots in the area. The bacon here is among the crispiest we’ve had in Bali. They do a decent smoothie, too.
  • La Tabla Bali is a pleasant international restaurant that offers a mix of Asian cuisine and Western favourites. We really like the way they present their food, and it’s a big hit on Instagram.
  • Ling-Ling’s Bali – if you want sushi in Batu Belig, Ling Ling’s is where to go for it. It’s the ideal place for a sharing meal with friends.
  • Creative Art Bar Bali – if you want to paint and drink cocktails, this may be the best place to do it on the island. Try their passionfruit mojito, and it’s awesome.

Why Is This Area Becoming More Popular With Tourists?

Seminyak Square

Bali is rapidly becoming one of the most popular places to stay in Southeast Asia, and holidays to the island are very popular indeed, particularly with Australians.

However, as more visitors arrive, most villas in the previously affordable beach towns have been priced beyond the means of many arrivals.

The beaches in the main resorts are very busy, and the traffic can often be overwhelming, which leads people to look for places to stay a bit further away from the action.

They want to be close enough to Canggu or Seminyak to enjoy a day at FINNS Beach Club or in a fine dining restaurant, but far enough that they aren’t paying the premium prices of the resorts in these places.

Taxi services are cheap in Bali, and that means it’s easy to stay near the beach at Batu Belig and then travel as you need to.

FAQs

Is There Surfing At Batu Belig Beach?

canggu surf guide at finns beach club

Yes, in fact, for experienced surfers, Batu Belig may be one of the best beaches in Bali.

The waves here are much bigger and stronger than they are at places like Kuta Beach or Legian Beach.

They are also strong enough that they make Batu Belig a poor beach to learn swimming, and children especially shouldn’t stray out very far into the water here.

If you want somewhere that’s good for children’s swimming, Mengiat Beach in Nusa Dua is an excellent choice.

Where Can I Swim In Seminyak? What About Seminyak Beach?

You can swim at most of the beaches in Seminyak, including Seminyak Beach, though it’s not the best beach for swimming, and you need to keep an eye on the lifeguards and the flags on the beach at all times.

However, you should not swim on Petitenget Beach in Seminyak because a recent study found dangerous bacteria in the water there.

They found that the seawater at this beach contains E. coli, which is a bacteria that often causes food poisoning and sickness in human beings.

Balinese authorities have vowed to take action to rectify this problem, but we’d recommend waiting until an official announcement that this has been taken care of before you opt to swim at Petitenget Beach.

What Are The Beaches In Bali Called?

There are far too many beaches in Bali to list all of their names here, but the Balinese word for beach is “Pantai”.

You will often find that a resort town has a beach named after the town, such as Pantai Kuta or Pantai Seminyak.

How Many Beaches Does Bali Have?

There are at least 35 named beaches in Bali, but there are many other beaches that are too small or secluded to have been given a formal name as yet.

That means you’ll never be shy of a place on the sand to enjoy the sunset or somewhere to go swimming or sunbathing.

How To Book A Trip To Batu Belig Beach?

Wherever you want to go in Bali, be it Batu Belig or any other beach destination, you should book through the beautiful people at Bali Res Centre.

This is a locally owned and managed travel agent that provides the best local knowledge to ensure you get the best deal on your time in Bali.

They can also ensure that your Batu Belig hotel isn’t right next to a building site, something that the faceless multi-national travel agencies cannot.

The best thing about using the Bali Res Centre is that you’re keeping your money in the local economy rather than sending it offshore. It’s a win-win for everyone.

Final Thoughts On Batubelig Beach

Batu Belig Beach is one of the places in Bali which is seeing huge increases in popularity. That’s because the popular areas of Legian, Seminyak, Kuta, Ubud, etc. are becoming very busy.

If you stay here, you’ll be within walking distance of all the best places, and neighbouring Seminyak offers some of the best fine dining options and upscale clubbing on the island.

Batu Belig has its own nightlife scene, though, and it’s pleasant and relaxing here after sunset with an emphasis on fun around the main street and the sand.
