Where Is Seseh Beach?
Seseh Beach is North of Canggu, and it’s found on Jalan Pantai Seseh (literally Seseh Beach Road) in Cemagi, Mengwi, Badung Regency, Bali, Indonesia. (If you want to know more about Mengwi – see our guide here).
The drive to Seseh Village and Seseh Beach is really quite pleasant and takes you through the local area and its pleasant rice fields (which are lovely for gentle hikes).
How To Get To Seseh Beach?
If you’re staying in the other beach towns such as Canggu, Seminyak, Kuta or Legian, it’s probably easiest just to get a Grab or Go-Jek to Seseh Beach.
It’s a relatively short and pleasant journey, and you won’t spend much more than 20-30 minutes in the car unless the traffic is particularly bad.
If you’re coming from further away, you might consider private car hire and a private driver.
This is a comfortable and convenient way to get from A to B, and it means you can stop along the way and enjoy any other attractions you might want to visit.
If you’re just landing at Ngurah Rai International Airport, then you might talk to your hotel about an airport transfer.
This is often included in the room rate and will have the hotel send a driver to meet you at the airport, collect you and your luggage and bring you straight to the hotel.
You could also hire a scooter, but we don’t recommend scooter travel in Bali. The roads aren’t well-maintained, and traffic rules are rarely followed.
That leads to accidents, and given that it’s hard to be road-legal here, many people find themselves uninsured in the event of an accident, even if they thought their travel insurance covered them.
We’d recommend spending a little more on transport rather than spending a fortune on hospital bills.
When Is The Best Time To Visit Seseh Beach?
There is no bad time of year to visit Bali, and it’s fair to say that this applies to Seseh Beach, too.
However, it’s worth noting that in the rainy season, the tide and waves become even more powerful and this may ramp up the challenge of surfing at this beach considerably.
During the dry season, it’s a little cooler and less humid, and the surf breaks are easier, but accommodation is more expensive.
Whatever time of year you opt for, there will be plenty of sunshine.
Is There An Entrance Fee For Seseh Beach?
No, there is no entrance fee for Seseh Beach, but if you want to park nearby, there may be a small fee for parking.
What To Expect At Seseh Beach?
Seseh Beach is a gorgeous black sand beach, and at low tide, the pools that appear on the beach are truly eye-catching.
Surfing At Seseh Beach
This is one of the most popular surfing spots in Bali, and there are loads of surf schools, surf camps, etc., nearby.
That means you can easily rent a board or get lessons. However, the waves here are pretty strong, and the current is very turbulent.
That means you probably won’t want to tackle Seseh Beach as a beginner surfer, it’s more for intermediate and advanced surfers.
Swimming And Snorkeling
The strong waves and unpredictable currents make this a bad beach for swimming and snorkelling.
There are some marked swimming spots, but if you do decide to swim, you should be a strong, experienced swimmer and keep an eye on the
Notes On Accessibility At Seseh Beach
There is no formal wheelchair access to this beach, and, of course, it isn’t ideal for wheelchairs either.

Notes On Photography At Seseh Bali
This is a very popular beach with photographers and people shooting the sunset and surfers all the time.
You can also use a drone on this beach (just make sure to comply with Bali’s Drone Laws when you do).
However, if there are any wedding parties on the beach (usually from Seseh Beach Villas), then it’s polite to ask before you take any snaps.
People don’t normally mind, but it’s best to get permission rather than get into an argument.
How Long Should I Spend At Seseh Beach?
As long as you want. If you’re only interested in the sunset view, an hour or two will do, but if you’ve come to surf, you might want to stay all day.

There are a lot of places to stay near Seseh Beach, and they tend to be higher-end resorts with sophisticated facilities and views of the Indian Ocean.

Seseh Beach Villas
We could really examine this beach without touching on the Seseh Beach Villas. This is a pair of villas with 11 bedrooms in total.
Seseh Beach Villas is one of the most popular wedding destinations in Bali and it has some incredible facilities for a place just outside a traditional village in Bali.
Each villa has a private chef, a private pool, outdoor dining pavilions, dining rooms, and pool decks, there are villa attendants, a villa manager and of course, the villa’s private chef on hand at all times of the day and night. You can also use the services of the villa’s complimentary car.
If you want to chill around the private pool, they have poolside relaxation balés, sun beds, pool toys, and so much more.
This really is one of the elite havens of Bali, and you get a very strong sense of being perfectly located in paradise here.
The view of the beach is lovely, and you can also look at the lush greenery of the glorious rice fields nearby.
Seseh villas offer fine dining and outdoor living in incredible style.
Seseh Beach Villa
The first villa, Seseh Beach Villa, at this complex has two storeys that tower above the lawn and private pool.
You can get an amazing view of the ocean from the private pool area here.
It has three guest bedrooms on the ground floor, and each of them has ensuite bathrooms with showers and bathtubs (an outdoor set-up).
Then, on the top floor, they have the two master suites with ocean views, open-air bathrooms and access to a rooftop terrace.
The pool area is spectacular and has a fire-bowl sculpture in the centre, which burns brightly at night!
Seseh Beach Villa II
There are six bedrooms at Seseh Beach Villa II, and they are equally spread over the two storeys of the building.
There is a very pleasant living room which has a pair of sitting areas. The first is for the huge TV and entertainment system, the other is around the private bar area.
There is a dining room here, which seats 14 people per sitting.
The kid’s room contains four bunk beds (for four children) and has its own bathroom.
The master bedrooms also have amazing views over the ocean.
As you’d expect, air conditioning and Wi-Fi are available throughout the property, and if you have any special requests or want to hold any special events, the onsite staff will be only too pleased to help.
Shore Amora Canggu
OK, it’s not an 11-bedroom villa complex like the Seseh Beach Villas, but it is an amazing luxury resort.
The design concept was to deliver a “lifestyle retreat that boldly reimagines Balinese hospitality” with an emphasis on giving back to the local community.
They say that this helps to bring positive, fresh energy to the area and its beautiful location between the ocean and the rice terraces.
The resort has its own rice field, in fact, which supplies the kitchens here and gives guests somewhere to stroll in.
It’s a very short walk from the beach, and the rooms and villas are highly contemporary and blessed with the latest technology. Free Wi-Fi is, of course, included throughout the property.
Eastin Ashta Resort Canggu
This luxurious resort has 119 rooms with a generous 37-60 square meters of space in each.
We love the infinity pool area, which has an amazing view out over the Indian Ocean.
The onsite signature restaurant serves up tasty creations all day long for hungry guests, and there’s easy access to the beach from here.
One interesting feature here is the rain showers, which are so cooling and refreshing after a day in the Balinese heat.
Udara Bali Yoga Detox & Spa
This resort is practically on Seseh Beach, and it’s meant to help guests relax and unwind from the stress of modern life.
It has a relaxation pavilion and four incredible yoga shalas (one of which looks out on the famous temple area nearby and three with ocean views).
They have suites as well as Joglos (traditional Javanese wooden villas with all the latest mod cons).
However, you should know that this is an adult’s adult-only resort, and it’s not the right place for families to stay in the area.
All yoga classes here are free for guests, and they offer one of the best detox programs in Bali.
MASMARA Resort
The MASMARA resort is filled with beautiful tropical blooms, and the scent of flowers follows you everywhere. (Mind you, this might not be ideal if you suffer from hay fever).
You can hear the ocean waves through much of the resort, and it makes for a calming, soothing experience when you’re trying to get some sleep.
The breakfast included here is a near-fine dining experience, and the dishes are innovative and exciting.
The staff are among the most friendly in Bali, too.
This resort is proof that you don’t have to stay at the Seseh Beach Villas to feel pampered and valued in Seseh Beach.
Where To Eat Near Seseh Beach
This area has some excellent local restaurants, and you can always get a tasty meal and some cold drinks at Seseh Beach. Some of our favourite places in this area include:
Organic Ocean Restaurant
This excellent seafood and international restaurant offers plenty of healthy menu options for vegans and vegetarians and also has gluten-free meals.
It’s part of the Udara Bali Yoga Resort and their standards are very high, indeed.
Afrokana Kitchen
There aren’t very many African restaurants, as yet, in Bali but this one in Seseh Beach is very good, indeed.
The emphasis is on home-cooked Nigerian cuisines, and they also make Afro-inspired cocktails. If you can’t make it to Lagos for dinner, this might be the next best thing.
Warung Honey
This is a pleasant local warung which offers international options in addition to some decent local food.
The chicken satay is delicious, and they do a top-notch mie goreng, too. You certainly won’t break the bank at this place as it’s very good value for money.
Warung Alus
If you want fresh lobster and amazing views over the beach and ocean, you can’t go wrong at Warung Alus.
It has a very old-school vibe that’s hard to find in Bali nowadays, and it’s always full of cool people.
Mewali Seseh

The handmade cookies at this restaurant are nearly legendary, and their Berry Booster Bowl is just amazing.
There’s a special kids’ area in here that allows play while adults graze. They also allow pets into part of the cafe.

Pererenan Beach
This beautiful beach is just a short walk from Seseh Beach, and it’s a 500-meter-long black sand beach.
It’s another favourite with the island’s surfers and kitesurfers also really enjoy the waters here.
It is surrounded by casual watering holes and some lovely local warungs.
Wild Selfie Art Museum
This relatively new museum in Canggu is carefully curated to help you make some amazing selfies.
There are 25 different environments inside, each of which will lead to some very unique shots for your Instagram/Snap/Facebook, etc.
There’s a nice cafe on site, too.
Vagabond Design Lab
If you’ve ever wanted to make candles or get into ceramics or painting, this is a great place to do it.
You can join a class or just start your own art project here and the fees are very reasonable, indeed.
Rumah Rabbit Bali
This is an excellent place for kids to learn new art forms. The Rumah Rabbit provides 3-hour projects supervised by experienced and qualified instructors.
They say that it helps children to learn fine motor skills and enhances their sense of fun and creativity. We think that makes sense.
Tanah Lot Temple
Tanah Lot Temple is just a short drive away, and it’s one of the most stunning sights in Bali.
You can walk to the temple on the island offshore during low tide (though you cannot go in unless you are a local Hindu).
It’s also amazing to watch the sunset over this temple. The temple processions are also something to watch out for on festival days.

Yes! This is a lovely place not far from the busier parts of Canggu, and it’s one of the island’s primary wedding destinations for a good reason.
There are plenty of hotels and restaurants nearby for you to enjoy, and the surfing at Seseh Beach is amazing!
Can You Surf At Seseh Beach?
Yes! In fact, Seseh Beach is one of the best surfing spots on an island full of great surf spots.
You can easily rent a board in the nearby shops, and you can get lessons here for a reasonable price, too.
If you want a longer surfing experience, you can find plenty of surf camps and surf specialist resorts in this area, too.
However, the water can be a bit rough at Seseh Beach, and you probably ought to be an intermediate-experienced surfer to tackle the wave breaks here.
