Kubur Beach is not far from Sukawati in the Gianyar Regency and it’s unusual for a beach in Bali that it’s not only on Google Maps but it has its own official Instagram account too.

We think given that most people don’t have easy access to this popular spot that it’s a nice touch and that more beaches on the Bali coastline would benefit from showcasing what’s there online.

How To Get To Kubur Beach

You can get to Kubur Beach in Bali by Grab or Gojek and you will find that because it’s located near Sukawati you can easily get a ride share home again, though in the very early morning, you might have to wait a little while.

It’s also just a 15-minute drive from the popular beach town of Sanur.

What’s The Best Time To Go To Kubur Beach

Given that this is a surf spot, surfers seeking good waves are the main users at Kubur Beach, you’re going to get the most dramatic waves during the wet season.

However, it’s worth noting that the best wind tends to arrive around lunchtime in the rainy season, so there’s no need to get up early to surf the waves at Kubur Beach.

You won’t get much waves at all during the dry season as the trade winds blow directly out from the shore and the East coast of Bali becomes a bad spot for surfing.

There are a few rocks in the Kubur Beach area too, so make sure to wear shoes for protection when exploring the beach for the best surf.

However, the natural beauty of this area doesn’t change all year round and less experienced surfers and those who just want to enjoy the shore line will find that there’s plenty of sun during the rainy season (or wet season) too.

This part of the island is not usually super busy, unlike say Kuta Beach, and that means you’ll find that Kubur Beach rarely, if ever gets crowded.

If you come in the morning, you will get a very pleasant sunrise as the light breaks over the coast coming in from the sea.

In the early evening, sunset is just fine too, though you might want to head out into the nearby rice fields for every more dramatic light in this region.

Is There An Entrance Fee For Kubur Beach

No, there is no entrance fee at Kubur Beach and unusually for a beach in Bali, Kubur Beach also offers free parking!

What To Expect At Kubur Beach

The beach is a black sand beach formed from volcanic rock and there are rocks on the beach too, so you need to be careful with your feet and we’d recommend water shoes for walking around this area.

It’s not the cleanest beach in Bali but it’s not ever covered in trash and if you visit, you will find it has its own charm and there are rarely very many tourists on this beach.

The area itself is quite charming and walking around Kubur Beach, you will find plenty of local stalls selling food, souvenirs, surf equipment, etc. and it all seemed to us to be fairly priced.

Surfing

Kubur Beach is part of a long stretch of beaches with shifting reef breaks and sandbanks.

The other beaches include Biaung Beach, Lembeng Beach and Gumicik Beach.

The breaks are low to mid-tide and when the water is at its best, you will find that you get excellent A-frame peaks.

On the other side of this, high tide is not as suitable for surfers and you will find you get shorepound.

On the very best of days, you may find the breaks will accommodate longboards, but there’s no guarantee of this.

Kubur Beach and the surrounding area and beaches have some excellent hotels and villas to choose from and you can be sure of a place where you can walk directly onto the beach when you wake each day. Check out:

  • Candani Villa – a 6-bedroom villa on the beach with massive lawns and gardens. The upstairs game room and deck with jacuzzi are lovely touches and we would happily stay here every time we were in the area, if only we could afford to.

  • Hamza Villa – a villa right on the beach that often attracts wedding and birthday parties. However, we have to note that this villa isn’t the prettiest villa that we’ve seen in Bali.
  • Ketewel Beach Villas & Spa – this is a large and spacious villa with an amazing pool area that looks incredible. The onsite spa is a lovely touch where you can chill after a day on Kubur Beach with a massage.
  • Suzuki Villa Ketewel Beachfront – a simple beachfront villa with pleasant hospitality from the family that runs the place. However, there are quite a few “rules” they expect you to adhere to that you might want to have known in advance.
  • Nalas Villa – this is a gorgeous place that is really swanky and we feel that if you’re looking to treat yourself, you can’t go wrong with this villa complex.
