How To Get To Belulang Hot Springs?

As it is quite a remote area, your best options to reach the hot spring are:

  • Car taxi (Grab or Gojek apps). Bike taxi won’t travel that far, but cars will. You may have a difficult time getting a car back though as it is far away from busy tourist areas.

  • Private driver will be the ideal option if you don’t drive. He can arrange the pick up for you, take you to lunch spot, and wait for you while you’re enjoying the healing powers of the geothermal springs.

  • Renting a bike or a car. If you have your international drivers’ license on hand, you can rent a bike or a car. The drive through Tabanan Regency is scenic and there will be not as much traffic as around Canggu.

Parking is spacious so you won’t have any issues parking your bike or car. From the parking lot, the bathing areas are just a short walk with the nature views.

When Is The Best Time To Visit Belulang Hot Spring?

The dry season, from April to October (November) is when the temperature is lower everywhere on the island and it can be nice to venture up north and warm up in a natural hot pool.

During the week there will be less people than on weekends.

Also, local families come with kids during school holidays, and kids love staying in the pool with floaties. So it can be less “serene” if you know what we mean.

Is There An Entrance Fee For Belulang Hot Springs?

Yes, you can buy a cheap entrance ticket right at the location. For foreign visitors the entrance fee is around 50,000 IDR (5 AUD) but subject to change. The hot spring doesn’t have a website or contact number, so make sure to bring some cash.

No reservation is required, however as the space is limited sometimes during Balinese holidays and weekend there can be a 10-30 minute waiting time.

The parking fee is small – around 3000 or 5000 IDR (under 0.5 AUD).

What To Expect At Belulang Hot Springs?

Belulang hot spring bathing areas are not very big. There is a small pool that fits around 8-10 people sitting and a small bathing area that are good for 1-3 people to dip the whole body or sit down. There is also a sort of shower with hot spring water right next to it.

You are in the middle of the nature and a Balinese temple, there are rarely many people there, and you can enjoy the views of terraced rice field and mountains around in peace. As it is a natural hot spring, expect a distinctive sulfur smell, although not very strong as it is more of a mineral hot spring, and a milkier color of the water.

After your bathing session, you can use public shower. It usually has body wash and shampoo, but it is best to have your own just in case. Public toilet is also available.

What To Do Near Belulang Hot Springs?

It is always a good idea to combine a few activities nearby in one day trip. Around the area where the hot springs is, you can also immerse yourself into Balinese culture and nature.

  • Jatiluwih, UNESCO World Heritage Site protecting endless rice teracces and its water irrigation system. There are a few trekking and cycling routes through nature to see the paddies, some banana, vanilla and coffee plants as well as some souvenir shops.

  • Kubu Terrace Cooking Class can be a part of Jatiluwih experience and trekking. You will learn to cook soup, side dish, main course and enjoy some authentic food along the way.

  • Desa Coklat – chocolate production farm and workshops, as well as a small cafe with a view where you can enjoy an amazing cup of hot chocolate with coconut milk (highly recommend!).

  • Hiking Batukaru. The hot spring is on the slope of one of the amazing Bali mountains – Batukaru. While not as popular as Batur or Agung, it has stunning views and quite challenging hikes. Find a local guide who can take you up there.

  • Visit the D`Wan Tea The First Tea Garden– a tea house not far from Jatiluwih where you can enjoy locally grown and made tea with amazing views. Tea ceremony requires a reservation.

The area around the hot spring and the parking will have lots of Indonesian street food stalls and simple drinks on weekend.

There are no restaurants within walking distance, but you will be able to find cafes around Jatiluwih with mainly Indonesian staples and a few coffee shops (Batu Karu Kopi is a really good one!).
