Thousand Islands Viewpoint is located on the southeast coast of Nusa Penida, in the Pejukutan District. It faces east towards Lombok and overlooks the small islands that make up the Pulau Seribu (Thousand Islands) cluster.

How To Get To Thousand Islands Viewpoint
To reach Thousand Islands Viewpoint, you’ll need to travel through Nusa Penida.
The viewpoint is about a 1.5-hour drive from Kampung Toya Pakeh, which is the main entry point to and the busiest area on the island. Be prepared for narrow, winding roads, especially in the last stretch.
There are several ways to reach the viewpoint:
Private Car and Driver – this is a great option both whether you’re alone or travelling with a group. You can tailor-make a day trip, knowing your driver will be waiting to take you to the next destination before taking you home.
Your driver will also have expert knowledge about the island and its more secret locations.
Guided Tour – joining a guided tour is a great idea, particularly for those travelling alone. The whole trip is planned out for you, so you can just sit back and relax, and it’s a great way to meet new people.
The only disadvanatge of this is having no control over the trip.
Motorbike/ Scooter Hire – hiring a motorbike or scooter is always a tempting idea…the sense of freedom, exploration, the wind blowing against your face…but, here at FINNS, we always recommend against it.
It’s unlikely that you’ll be road legal, leaving you open to problems from both the police and insurance, were you to have an accident. The roads on Nusa Penida Island are very testing, even compared to those in Bali, and accidents are common even for experienced riders. Don’t ruin your holiday!
How To Get To Nusa Penida Island
If you’re not already on Nusa Penida, you’ll need to get there first.
From Bali, the most frequent route is to take a boat from Sanur, which takes around 30 to 45 minutes. If you’re on Nusa Lembongan, the boat ride to Nusa Penida is just a short 10 to 15-minute journey.
Other options include a boat from Padang Bai or Kusumba.
When Is The Best Time To Visit Thousand Islands Viewpoint?
The best time to visit Thousand Islands Viewpoint is early morning for a peaceful experience and those beautiful sunrise views.
If you’re not an early riser, late afternoon is also great for vibrant skies and stunning views as the sun sets behind the island.
Avoid midday when the heat is intense and crowds are larger. Morning or late afternoon offers the best lighting and fewer tourists.
As for the time of year, visiting during the dry season (April to October) ensures clearer skies and more enjoyable weather.
Is There An Entrance Fee For Thousand Islands Viewpoint?
At the time of press, there was a parking fee and a small entrance fee to the viewpoint. These fees help to keep up with the maintenance of the viewpoint and facilities there.
Parking Fee: 5k IDR per vehicle
Entrance Fee: 25k IDR per person, which includes a wristband and a small bottle of water
Fees are subject to change. Small bills are preferable; the little hut that takes the fee had no small change when we went there.
The Thousand Island Viewpoint has been made fairly accessible and the local environment has been protected partly due to funding from the entrance fees.
What To Expect When Visiting Thousand Islands Viewpoint
Thousand Islands Viewpoint offers one of the most stunning panoramas in Nusa Penida, showcasing a breathtaking view of turquoise waters and the small islands that make up the Pulau Seribu.
There are actually two viewpoints; the first viewpoint has recently been roped off for safety reasons, so we went straight to the second viewpoint.
From here, you can catch a great view of the bays on either side, as well as the rocks jutting out of the ocean, some so large they even have their own island names, such as Nusa Batumategan.

We went on a clear day, and it was easy to see Lombok across the ocean.
Vantage Point
From this vantage point, you’ll have a perfect view of the dramatic cliff faces and crystal-clear waters below.
The viewpoint has different angles to capture the stunning coastline and the islands that dot the sea, and it’s the perfect spot for taking pictures.
Whether you’re looking to take pictures of the beautiful coast or just soak in the surroundings, this viewpoint is a memorable experience for visitors.
Rumah Pohon Treehouse
One of the main attractions of Thousand Islands Viewpoint is the Rumah Pohon Treehouse. Perched on a cliff edge, this viewpoint has an even more unique perspective of the island.
There was an entrance fee of 75k IDR when we went, allowing us in for the photo opportunity. If you really want to capture that perfect photo, or just enjoy the view, then it’s worth the small fee to have a look.
Things To See And Do Near Thousand Islands Viewpoint
The east coast of Nusa Penida offers much more to discover near Thousand Islands Viewpoint, including other beaches and viewpoints.
Diamond Beach
Diamond Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on Nusa Penida, known for its soft white sand and crystal-clear waters.
The beach is surrounded by steep cliffs and dramatic rock formations. It’s a great place to relax, swim, or take in the views. Overlooking both Diamond Beach and Atuh Beach is the Jogglo Viewpoint.
Atuh Beach
Another breathtaking beach on the east coast is Atuh Beach, just on the other side of the bay.
The beach is tucked away between towering cliffs, providing a peaceful setting to enjoy the natural beauty of Nusa Penida.
This is a good place for swimming and snorkeling, but if you don’t fancy getting wet and you like to explore, then there’s some good hiking to be done around the area.
Teletubbies Hill
While we’re on the topic of viewpoints, just a short distance inland lies one of Nusa Penida’s famous viewpoints, Teletubbies Hill.
This viewpoint is named as such due to its uncanny resemblance to the famous children’s TV show, and it has some breathtaking views of rolling hills.

No adventure is complete without a good feed, so of course we took it upon ourselves to check out a few of the local eateries.
Eastside Penida Kitchen & Bar
This one had a 5-star rating on Google Maps, so we had to check it out, and we weren’t disappointed.
They do a fantastic seafood pasta here, and if seafood is not your thing, then try the chicken rendang or the pineapple fried rice.

This well-designed bar and restaurant has a cool and funky atmosphere.
The service was great and the food was top quality. The chicken parm and the chicken avocado sandwich were delicious, and it’s a great location to grab a beer, also.
