When Is The Best Time To Visit Mertasari Beach

We maintain there’s no best time to visit Bali or Mertasari Beach but it is cooler and less humid in the dry season. Thus, you may enjoy this beach in Sanur, Bali a little more if you time your visit for that time of year.

However, if your vacation dates mean that your trip to Bali must come in the wet season, don’t worry, you will find we still get 8+ hours of sunshine most days even in the rainy season.

Is There An Entrance Fee For Mertasari Beach?

There is no entrance fee for Mertasari Beach, however, if you want to park here, you’ll need to pony up 2,000 IDR (about $0.12 USD or $0.20 AUD) for a scooter and 5,000 IDR (about $0.30 USD and $0.50 AUD) for a car.

What To Expect At Mertasari Beach

This is an area of natural beauty located in a long strip of beaches along the coastline of Sanur.

It’s considered one of the best places in Bali to see the sunrise (not the sunset, it’s on the wrong side of the island for that).

Mertasari Beach like all beaches in Sanur has plenty of watersports rental shops and schools nearby and some cafes and restaurants too.

Otherwise, it’s a destination that tends to appeal to families seeking to relax and unwind on the soft white sands.

There are plenty of things you can do at this beach and they include:

Fishing Charter

The local fishing boats can be rented by the hour or the day at nearby Mertasari Harbour and you can explore the local seas as well as snorkel among the marine wildlife if you don’t fancy fishing.

Swimming

The Sanur area is fantastic for swimming and Mertasari Beach is no exception to this rule.

The beach is well protected by an offshore reef and any waves that happen along, tend not to be huge, and thus, you can safely swim with your family even young children will be fine as long as you keep a watchful eye on them.

Sunbathing

One very pleasant activity on Mertasari Beach is sunbathing on the white sand. You’ll find that many visitors don’t do much beyond swimming, sunbathing and playing on the sand at this Sanur beach because it’s such a pleasant place to be.

Jet Skiing

You don’t need to be a professional skier to enjoy jet skiing and the prices for jet ski rental out of Mertasari Harbour are very reasonable.

Indonesia doesn’t have many scams related to this activity, unlike Thailand, and you can enjoy a ride out on the waves without worrying about conflict on the beach when you return.

Sanur is a great place for water sports, though because the waves tend to be mild, it’s not the best place for surfing.

Many tourists opt to take lessons in their ideal sport from the businesses that line the sand at Mertasari Beach.

Where To Eat Near Mertasari Beach, Bali

There are some pleasant places to eat in this area including: 

  • Genius Cafe Sanur – this is one of Sanur’s best restaurants and it’s a short stroll from the beaches in town. They also have some excellent vegetarian and vegan options on the menu.

  • Warung Kursi Pendek – if you like Vietnamese food, you’re going to love this place which does amazing spring rolls and bowls of pho.

  • Bamboo Beach Bar & Lounge – this is a restaurant built for vacation traffic and the design is very attractive and the entire staff will work to make your trip here special. But, the food, sadly, is only so-so.

  • Bella Italia Sanur – if you want pasta and pizza after a day on the beach in Sanur, this is a great place to go and the prices are very fair.

  • Dimattina Roastery and Kitchen – we like to visit this place for breakfast as it’s set in a natural beauty spot and has amazing coffee.

  • Warung Korea – this is a basic hawker stand-style place with some very tasty options on the menu. It’s the ideal destination for some cheap eats if it’s just a short walk from your villa or accommodation.

There are some great accommodation options in Sanur and you can go with a luxury villa, one of the many hotels or even a guest house here:

This is a lengthy stretch of beach that has a lovely boardwalk that runs all the way down the side (it’s ideal for jogging or cycling a bike).

There are plenty of shops, cafes, etc. within sight and many visitors opt to explore the area at a slow crawl stopping at all the places that catch their fancy on the way.

Cemara Beach

This is one of the cleanest and most pleasant beaches in the area, and you can have a great family day out here.

However, there are often electric bike users on the sidewalks and they can be a bit aggressive in asserting their usage, even though this is clearly a pedestrian zone.

Karang Beach

This is one of the best places to go some yoga on the island and it’s very popular with the wellness community.

There are some nice gazebos just off the shore, where you can have a picnic.

Pura Tirta Empul Merta Sari

This attractive temple just off the edge of Mertasari Beach is set in a lovely garden surrounded by lush tropical greenery.

The main entrance is surrounded by exquisite carvings and there’s a bathing pool in the centre of the grounds. You are welcome to bathe but must wear a sarong if you do.

Metarsari Beach is in Sanur. That’s on the opposite side of the island from Kuta Beach and instead of enjoying a spectacular sunset as you would in Kuta, you can enjoy one of the best sunrises in the world, instead.
