The 62 Best Indonesian Restaurants, Bali 2025: The Ultimate Guide On Where To Get Authentic Indonesian Food On The Island

There are, as you would imagine, a lot of Indonesian Restaurants in Bali and our team had the pleasure of going out to try them all to try and find the best Indonesian restaurants in Bali.

We think that they have succeeded and we’re proud to present our list of the 62 best Indonesian restaurants in Bali here. Enjoy!

Traditional Balinese Cuisine Vs Indonesian Cuisine

top 10 must try balinese dishes

Balinese cuisine is a subset of Indonesian cuisine. After all, Bali is in Indonesia. However, it’s often very different too.

Both schools of cooking have delicious dishes and it’s worth including both on your culinary journey in Bali.

Balinese Is Hindu Cuisine

However, Balinese cuisine is primarily Hindu and thus, has much less emphasis on beef (which is not eaten by strict Hindus, though it’s certainly available in Bali and without any problems) and tends to combine the flavours not just of Indonesia but also China, India and Europe.

These cultures have heavily influenced Balinese culture and it should come as no surprise that they’ve also influenced the authentic flavors of the local menu too.

Indonesian Is Muslim Cuisine

Indonesian cuisine, on the other hand, is predominantly for Muslims. That means there’s no pork (among other things) on the menu and it is usually halal (that is it’s permitted under the Muslim faith because of the way that the food has been prepared).

FAQs

What Is Famous To Eat In Bali?

There is plenty of delicious food that originates in Bali. Popular local food includes satay (sate), nasi ayam, nasi campur, bebek, ayam betutu, babi guling, tahu and tempeh, pepes and tum, wajik, pancong, jaja batun bedil, bubuh injin, pisang rai, kelepon, nasi goreng, and lawar.

It really depends on what you want to spend. Local food at a modest warung is probably going to cost about 30,000-75,000 IDR.

But if you visit Mandapa (as mentioned above), you could spend more than that on a cup of coffee to wash your meal down.

A fine dining establishment can, quite literally, cost thousands of dollars for a single meal with some fine wines.

Is Balinese Food Different To Indonesian?

Yes, though technically Balinese Food IS Indonesian Cuisine, traditional Balinese cuisine combines Indonesian, Chinese, Indian and even European influences to create its own slant on things.

It’s worth noting that authentic local cuisine is also Hindi cuisine and may not be halal and ought not to contain beef.

Whereas traditional Indonesian food is for Muslims and should not have any pork and all the ingredients ought to be halal (permitted) by the faith.

The name of an Indonesian restaurant is “warung”. Warungs can vary from modest beach shacks serving simple food to the ultimate fine dining experience.

Does Bali Have Any Michelin Star Restaurants? How Many Michelin-Starred Restaurants Are In Bali?

No. At the moment, the Michelin Guide does not assess restaurants in Bali for Michelin awards. There are plenty of restaurants in Bali with chefs who have won Michelin stars, mind you, it’s just that none of those stars were awarded in Bali.

We think this is likely to change in the near future. Bali has an incredible number of world-class restaurants and sooner or later, it’s likely to get Michelin recognition for that.

Several Balinese chefs have already stated their aim to be the first Michelin-starred chefs in Bali.
