If you want to explore a little piece of paradise when you’re on the island, you might want to visit one of the most interesting waterfalls in Bali – Goa Rang Reng Waterfall.
It’s located in the jungle and offers serenity and a place to relax, as well as shallow pools for a bit of swimming. Here’s everything you need to know about this beautiful place.
Where Is Goa Rang Reng Waterfall?
This waterfall is in the Gianyar Regency and it’s not far from the towns of Ubud and Sukawati.

How To Get To Goa Rang Reng Waterfall?
You will need a motorbike to get down the path to Goa Rangreng Waterfall. If you take a look on Google Maps, you will see it’s quite a long walk from the road to the waterfall without transport.
If you don’t have a bike, you can always rent one or get a motorbike driver to take you there (and bring you back again) for a fixed fee.
The waterfall is in between the local villages of Gianyar province, not far from Sukawati and Ubud and it shouldn’t take too long to get there from these towns.
If you’re coming from further afield, you might want to make a day (or two) of this area and stay locally to enjoy all that this place of outstanding natural beauty has to offer.
The Trail To Goa Rang Reng Waterfall
This isn’t the hardest waterfall to get to, the pathway leading to the waterfall splits into two (one takes you to the nearby caves and the other to the waterfalls), but if you have local guides with you, you will go in the right direction.
The gentle angle of the pathway also ensures that it’s relatively safe to get down (though it can be slippery if it’s rained) but we’d still recommend you have travel insurance before you visit any site out in nature here in Bali, just in case.
When Is The Best Time To Visit Goa Rang Reng Waterfall?
If you want to avoid crowds, you will want to get to this place early in the morning before the crowds arrive. This is a popular and enchanting spot and it sees quite a lot of tourists despite the little pathway that requires a motorbike trip to reach the river.
We’d also recommend that you time your visit for the end of the rainy season. This allows for much better waterflow than you will see in the dry season.
Is There An Entrance Fee For Goa Rang Reng Waterfall?
Yes, the ticket price to enter this place (for both locals and foreigners) is just 20,000 IDR (about $1.25 USD or $2 AUD).
However, we’d recommend that you stretch to the use of a local Balinese guide. This will only cost you 100,000 IDR if you haggle (it’s a good chance to test your Balinese negotiation skills) or 200,000 IDR if you don’t – including entry.
This doesn’t just include the guide and the entrance fee, however, it also includes walking sticks, shoes for climbing and the use of a waterproof bag that the guide will carry all your non-waterproof stuff in for you.
The guides also know how to get the best photos of you and the Goa Rang Reng Waterfall. Goa Rang Reng Waterfall is very photogenic with plenty of natural beauty to enjoy and it looks awesome in Instagram shots.
We honestly feel that this is one of the best deals in Bali and the guides are among the nicest people that we’ve ever encountered too.
There are also some minor parking fees (2,000 IDR per vehicle). It’s important to bring cash as none of these fees can be paid with a card.
Goa Rang Reng Waterfall Opening Hours
Officially, this waterfall is open 24 hours a day but realistically, you will want to manage your visit within daylight hours.
We recommend going before it gets really sunny and enjoying some peace and quiet here as well as getting the benefit of the Golden Hour light at sunrise.
What To Expect At Goa Rang Reng Waterfall
Goa Rang Reng Waterfall is not far from the sacred cave complex with a similar name but the entrance fee only gives you access to the three waterfalls, a cliff jumping spot (note: we don’t recommend cliff jumping – it’s a dangerous hobby and while most jumps go without a hitch, some end in tragedy), and a “Bali swing” which gives you a great view over the rest of the area plus a chance to get some amazing shots for your Instagram feed.
The main waterfall, Goa Rang Reng flows rather gently down the cliffside and if you want to swim in a waterfall’s pool, but have always been scared of the force of the water – this is a great place to do it as the water has almost no impact at all on people beneath the fall.
It’s worth noting that you cannot go cliff jumping without a local guide, landing in the natural pool below the gently cascading waterfall safely is hard work and the guide will ensure that you leave Goa Rangreng Waterfall in one piece, rather than in pieces.
This is one of the more famous waterfalls in Bali and because it’s so near the rice terraces of Ubud and Sukawati, it can get much busier than some of the other waterfalls. So, if you visit Bali to see beautiful waterfalls always remember to get there early in the day before the masses descend on this place.
