Kyoka has become a big presence in the Ubud bar scene, and we think that might be down to its inspired use of bold flavours in its cocktail creations.
We recommend starting with dinner here, as they make some excellent Japanese food, and then slowly transitioning to the cocktail menu.
Their Sea-Slide with their own nori-infused tequila is one of the most memorable drinks we’ve ever had on this island.

Copper Kitchen & Bar @ Bisma 8 Hotel
Bisma 8 is out in the rainforest, and if you love the thought of cocktails in the jungle, you’re not going to be disappointed by Copper Kitchen & bar.
It’s open all day long, but we recommend going for a sundowner and then staying on long into the night.
They have some incredible mixologists who bring a fusion of Western and local ingredients to their awesome creations!

Boliche Bar @ Cantina Rooftop
Boliche is new, but there’s been a bar on this spot for nearly 50 years, and thus, it has a long, distinguished heritage to carry on its shoulders.
Fortunately, it lives up to this, and if you love music (you can get anything from soul to Sgt Peppers depending on the night) and mixology, you will love this place.
Later on in the evenings, they have a live DJ who always aims to please. Just be aware that you need to message them before you go – to get the password that gets you through the door.

No Mas
While many of the bars in Ubud and in Bali at large are trying to wow their customers with an upscale and upmarket ethos, No Mas is just having fun.
The sign says, “easy food, stiff drinks, failed marriages, bad app ideas…” and that works for us.
In fact, the drinks are great, the music is better, and they have a live band every day, what’s not to like?

Pasir
The Monkey Forest Road, or Jalan Monkey Forest, is home to a lot of different bars and restaurants. One of our favourites is Pasir.
The name Pasir means “sand” in the native language, and it’s meant to evoke a feeling of being by the sea even when you are not.
We think their amazing cocktails and rich seafood menu do a sublime job of capturing the essence of island life.

Jati Bar @ Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan
As you would expect from the Four Seasons, Jati Bar is not a cheap drinking destination, but it’s a fantastic place to go for some serious drinks.
We love that they barrel-age their cocktails in artisan terracotta casks to give them a smooth, deep texture that is unrivalled elsewhere.
They also do a lot of local infusions of spirits with fruits and herbs from the island. Cocktail bars don’t get much better than this.

Mandapa may be the most luxurious resort on an island overflowing with luxury resorts, and as you’d expect, there’s an old-world atmosphere here that’s hard to emulate elsewhere.
This is where you come for a sundowner to lounge in comfort, looking out over the valley below and enjoying original creations and all the classics as your heart desires.

If you’re hungry for Mediterranean dishes, then Melali’s the place for you. It’s definitely one of the finest restaurants in Ubud.

The Laughing Buddha Bar is nearly always packed because it’s nearly always got great live music and a crowd looking for a good time.
It’s very easy to find as it’s one of the first places on Monkey Forest Road, and you will probably hear the good times before you experience them there.

Murni’s restaurant is an iconic part of Ubud life, and it’s been in the area for over 30 years, but what many people don’t seem to know is that this bar has been there for all that time, too.
The cocktail list might be a little conservative, but that’s OK. It’s quite a conservative-looking place that seeks to preserve a touch of “old Bali” for new generations.
