Padangbai Blue Lagoon Beach – Bali’s Secret Beauty
A beautiful hidden paradise, a little quiet bay with clean blue waters, white sand, and lush hills that started development around 1991.
The serene atmosphere here with the Indian Ocean and fishing boats backdrop is perfect for relaxation for couples and families away from the hustle and bustle of Canggu and Kuta.
The landscape is also quite different. You won’t see palm trees here, but lots of frangipani trees and bushy trees, and even cacti, surrounding the 60-metre-long beach.
The shoreline is very narrow here, so the shade is only in the warungs up the steps.
Where Is Blue Lagoon Beach Located?
Blue Lagoon Beach is located in Karangasem Regency, in East Bali, right on the other side of Padang Bay.
East Coast is well known for its rich culture, volcanic black rocky formations, and black sand beaches. Surprisingly, Blue Lagoon Beach has beautiful white sand surrounded by volcanic rock like in a canyon.

How Do You Get To The Blue Lagoon In Bali?
The best way to get to the Blue Lagoon Beach is to get a taxi or hire a private driver. It takes around 1,5 hours to get to the beach from Kuta and around 2.5 hours from Canggu.
The parking fee is around 5,000-10,000 IDR (0.5-0.9 AUD). There is no entrance fee to access Blue Lagoon Beach in Bali.

There is no public transportation connecting Blue Lagoon Beach to Denpasar or other areas in Bali.

Things You Can Do At Blue Lagoon Beach, Bali

Scuba Diving
Experienced divers will take you to explore vibrant marine life, coral reefs, and tropical fish, and have a unique experience in the ocean.
Tanjung Jepun is the diving spot to see some clown fishes and participate in the coral restoration initiative and it is also a much more beginner-friendly dive than Nusa Penida as the depth here is around 18 m maximum.
When the area is not too busy, you can get lucky and see reef sharks and turtles.
If you’re a more experienced diver, you can enjoy free diving here.
The diving spots in the area are Blue Lagoon Drop Off, Jepun (boat wreck), Tanjung Sari (up to 25 m), Bias Tugal, Ferry Channel, and Tanah Ampo. You can also dive in Padang Bai.
Snorkelling
While you can snorkel from the shore in Blue Lagoon Beach, you will see more fish and marine life if you take a boat further out in the ocean. You can rent the gear right on the beach for around 150,000 IDR (around 14 AUD), even a life jacket.
The waters are very clear so the visibility is amazing this side of Bali.
You can ask around directly on the beach and someone will be more than willing to take you snorkeling. Get ready to be surrounded by multicoloured fishes like Murray eel, puffer fish, cattle fish, emperor fish with googly eyes, barracuda, and maybe even a turtle swims by.
Swimming In Blue Lagoon, Bali
Calm waves and clean water are two safety factors for a great swim, and Blue Lagoon Beach has them both.
If swimming is not exactly your thing, there are also kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding available if there are no big waves.
Visiting Temples
This little area has a strong flare of Bali’s rich cultural heritage with a few Hindu temples on the rocky hills.
Silayukti Temple has a beautiful sea view, tranquillity holy places always offer, and a few monkey guests waiting for a snack.
Pura Peyogaan is a unique holy place carved in the volcanic rock where all you can see are the ocean and the sky. Balinese Hindus pray and leave offerings with a background sound of waves lapping on the rocks.
There are a few more small temples around that you will discover if you walk around the hills and rocks.

There is a small art space at Bloo Eco Village promoting local culture and young artists from all over Indonesia across popular disciplines like paintings, sculpture, and performance art.
The space also organizes workshops to get a glimpse into creating art with recycled materials.

For a quick lunch, there are a few local warungs (simple cafes) right on the beach. But as the area is small in general, for a fancier meal, you should venture back to Padang Bai port (a 5-minute drive) or further East.
There are La Cabana restaurant and cocktail bar in Padang Bay with some Indonesian and vegan food, and Little Bay Coffee & Eatery to grab a coffee and a sandwich in the morning.
The Bloo Lagoon Restaurant & Cafe at the Eco Village serves a more Westernized dinner and international cuisine.
Spa & Massage
The spa is available at the Bloo Lagoon Eco Village with amazing views and treatments, and there are also a few affordable local spots in the port area.
Tips Before You Visit Blue Lagoon Beach
- The drive to Padang Bai from Kuta or Canggu can be quite long, so wear comfortable clothing and bring some snacks.

The best time to snorkel and dive at Blue Lagoon Beach is during the dry season from April to October when the currents are calmer and the water is clearer.

The village may take a small fee if you’re entering through the port.

Before you reach Blue Lagoon Beach you pass by the port, in the morning and afternoon there can be more tourists travelling between islands but usually traffic is ok around the area.

Bring cash as there are mostly warungs to grab food and they may not accept cards or charge a 3% fee if you’re using a foreign card.
