I Am Vegan Babe

It won’t come as a surprise that this cafe is all about vegan dishes. If you want fruit bowls and oat milk, you will be satisfied here.

In fact, the vegan options are all the great food at this Canggu Cafe and it remains extremely popular and has extremely affordable prices.

Try a smoothie bowl and some of their delicious coffee to get your day started.

Nude

Nude is one of the most inclusive cafes in Canggu. They have an ordinary menu, a vegetarian menu and a vegan one!

It’s a short walk from the Berawa Beach area and this is a coffee shop with some amazing breakfast dishes.

After you eat breakfast, make sure to take some photos of this very Instagrammable place for your feed!

Baked

Bread can be a bit hit-and-miss in Indonesia but at Baked, it’s always a hit.

Their loaves are available to take home, too and that’s a real benefit to opting for the healthy food at this coffee shop.

We love their Korean Honey Toast but often find ourselves drawn to the mouthwatering Ricotta Hotcakes with blueberries, cheese and syrup, too.

Good Mantra

This plant-based restaurant and cafe does excellent smoothie bowls to get your day started, but it does much more than that, too.

The Matahari Pancakes are amazing and have no dairy, but use Coconut Cream to achieve the same effect.

All of their ingredients are locally sourced and this is one of our favourite Canggu cafes because it really does aim for a farm-to-table experience.

Neighbourhood Food

Canggu Cafes don’t get much more laid back than this Australian-inspired brunch spot.

Their version of eggs benedict, “Hood Benedict”, is an absolute classic and it brings a spicy edge to this traditional dish.

They use their own coffee beans to create their own house blends for their coffees and we love sitting in their gorgeous seating area and sipping coffee here.

The Avocado Factory

There’s no hiding that the Avocado Factory is all about pairing avocado with everything! Even their delicious specialty Bali coffee beans can be accompanied by avocado!

We confess it’s fine with us, this is one of our favourite Canggu Cafes for a reason and that reason is avocado is super tasty.

Try the Truffles Benedict (with mashed avocado) and tell us we’re wrong. Or stick to the traditional avocado toast, which is equally as good. The Avocado Factory knows exactly what its strengths are.

Milk & Madu

Set on a quiet street out towards Berawa Beach, Milk & Madu is a great place for your morning coffee or a tasty lunch or dinner.

The healthy eating crowd almost universally loves their smoothie bowls and they seem to have plenty of fruit in them.

We prefer the poached eggs drowned in hollandaise ourselves, along with some crispy bacon. It’s Bali, you should be on holiday every day and twice when it comes to delicious breakfast options.

Crate Cafe

If you’re looking for the king of the breakfast cafes in Canggu, you may decide that it’s Crate Cafe.

Yes, Crate Cafe has good coffee and tasty smoothie bowls, but they also have much more.

Their “Peas Please”, for example, sees them balance a poached egg over a winning combo of spinach, feta cheese and peas over sourdough bread. It’s awesome, just like Crate Cafe.

The Shady Shack

Set among the rice fields of Canggu, this charming outdoor space is all about healthy food and, in particular, plant-based food.

Their nori bowl is the talk of the vegan community in town, and their Pillow Talk gnocchi are considered to be awesome even by hardened meat eaters.

If you want to get away from the healthy dishes, try their cheesecake, it’s the kind of decadent treat that we only dream of back home.

Buongiorno by Sa’Mesa

This cafe is the smaller version of the award-winning and top-rated Italian restaurant Sa’Mesa.

As you’d expect from an offering from one of the best restaurants in Bali, this cafe is awesome.

Please don’t go for a quick breakfast. Go for a long one and enjoy their delicious smoothies and extremely potent coffee!

Of all the cafes on this list, this one is costly, but real coffee connoisseurs are going to love it.

Honey Kitchen

Honey Kitchen is a breath of fresh air in the Canggu Cafes scene. They have tropical vibes combined with an elegant minimalist style and just walking into this concept store is a truly awe-inspiring experience.

Most of all, though, the menu lives up to the aesthetic appeal. Try their coconut hotcakes and you’ll be begging for more.

And one thing everyone agrees on is that they have incredible sweet potato fries!

Pels Supershop

This vegan cafe is the successor to the famous Peloton Cafe and it’s the brainchild of some of the island’s best plant-based cooks.

In fact, the food here is so good that it sees an awful lot of non-vegans popping in for their all-day breakfasts and burritos!

Canggu Cafes don’t often feel as relaxed and cozy as Pels does, either.

Front Cafe

This cafe is very basic in style, but despite that, it’s become a firm favourite among the island’s digital nomads.

That’s probably because it’s very reasonably priced and they have a menu full of delicious treats that are served in big portions.

Their big brekkie burgers are enough to see you skipping lunch and going all the way through to dinner!

Ruko Cafe

The star of the show at Ruko Cafe is their pulled pork eggs bennie! It’s absolutely sensational and while it won’t appeal to vegans, it will appeal to everyone else.

They use local ingredients in a myriad of ways to create plenty of tasty dishes. Try one of their delicious pastries and you’ll be wowed by this gem among Canggu Cafes.

Rize Cafe

If you’ve been searching for the standout among Canggu Cafes for healthy food brunch options, then Rize is for you!

They offer vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options with an Indian twist. Their house dosas are worth travelling from the other side of the island for in our opinion.

And if you’re surfing nearby, this is really a “don’t miss” destination.

Monsieur Spoon

This is definitely a breakfast spot for us because we like to make sure we can sit outside in their lovely garden and sip coffee before the heat of the day is upon us.

Their crispy and buttery croissants are near perfect, too and it’s lovely to find a haven of French cuisine in this corner of Bali.

Monsieur Spoon is also one of the few Canggu cafes to bake its bread and it’s just so tasty!

Cafe Vida Organic

Cafe Vida is all about that home-like feel and it’s set in a local family’s compound where it offers a healthy dose of local culture alongside their awesome menu.

We go for the homemade cake and their delectable chocolate goodies, but as often as not, we just end up sitting in the outdoor seating and enjoying their herbal teas!

Matcha Cafe

The matcha at the Matcha Cafe is the same matcha that is served in the best restaurants in Japan! Yes, they import theirs from Uji and it’s exactly as it should be!

Try their chicken and bacon burger if you’re in search of a big, hearty meal and if not, their vegan matcha banana bread is simply to die for.

If you’re near Berawa Beach, why not pop in and sample what Matcmatcha offers?

Hungry Bird

Edo, the Indonesian owner, has a serious passion for coffee. He started in business after repairing a broken coffee machine that somebody else had thrown out.

He then roasted local coffee beans in his home until he could afford to set up his flagship store and coffee shop, Hungry Bird.

Surfers come from all over Bali to enjoy the local waves and his amazing breakfasts and beautifully roasted local coffee!

Sprout

Sprout opts for a blend of local Indonesian coffee beans and ones imported from South America.

They say that this offers a fuller, more intense flavour than you can get from the local beans alone.

We think they make an incredible cup of coffee so they may be right. Their gluten-free superfood energy balls are a very popular menu item, too.

Mile-End Kitchen & Bar

This funky and contemporary cafe is near Echo Beach and not only does it make some of the tastiest bagels we’ve ever tried, but it has a great happy hour, too!

Canadians will find this Canggu Cafe to serve the most authentic cuisine on the island.

Milu by NOOK

NOOK is a very well-established Balinese brand and as you’d expect the Milu by Nook offering among Canggu cafes is a standout.

We like their casual but ever-so-refined dining areas that bring you the best of Asian and Western cuisines in an environment that is entirely family-friendly!

You also won’t break the bank on a visit to Milu by NOOK. It’s incredibly reasonably priced.

Cinta Cafe

Cinta Cafe is a standout among Canggu Cafes because of its amazing views over the rice paddies nearby.

We love to have brunch here and while away the day with a cup of coffee and drinking in the atmosphere.

If you’re going to eat, the Baked Shakshuka is awesome and super healthy too! Cinta Cafe is a lovely place to enjoy some wonderful food!

Touche

This most stylish of Canggu Cafes is very near to Pererenan Beach and it’s the sort of place that’s almost too upmarket for the local scene.

However, don’t let that put you off, because the food is incredible and our crisp tuna tataki salad was one of the most legendary dishes we’ve ever had in Bali.

It’s a great spot for people watching, too and there’s a bit of outdoor space for you to chill and let island life go by you.

The Common Cafe Bali

The Common was founded by the highly successful and popular Good Food Brotherhood, which has several other cafes in Bali, including Milk & Madu mentioned above.

They do an avocado toast that’s as good as the one in Avocado Factory and their breakfast tacos are incredibly tasty!

There are plenty of health options on the menu and this includes gluten-free and dairy-free!

The Brunch Club

The Brunch Club already sounds like somewhere you want to go, right? And anyone who’s been will confirm that you really do want to go.

Try their pancake stack which is just an incredible collection of flavours and sweet goodness.

And you can get pretty much anything you want here, from healthy salad bowls to all-day fry-ups or even a quick coffee!

Copenhagen Canggu

If you’d love to try Scandinavian food but don’t fancy pickled herring, you should love Copenhagen.

This cafe brings the minimalist aesthetic of Denmark to bear on Bali and uses local ingredients to create Scandi dishes that are tasty and healthy!

Our go-to here is the sausage with a side of crispy bacon because it’s awesome!

The Slow Kitchen & Bar

The Slow is something of a Canggu institution and it’s all about bohemian and artsy vibes.

If that sounds like your kind of thing, you will probably love their gourmet bites and excellent coffee.

They’re close to the beach, too, which can be very handy if you want a dip after you eat.

Zin Cafe

Zin is another believer in the power of avocado to win the hearts and minds of Canggu’s visitors and they’re not wrong, are they?

This brand was actually born in Amsterdam before arriving in Bali, believe it or not.

All their ingredients are locally farmed and sourced and they are big supporters of the organic and artisanal production movement here on the island.

Bali Bowls & Smoothies

If you can put it in a bowl, Bali Bowls & Smoothies probably does. You can find salad bowls, poke bowls and much more here!

They are great value, too and this is the first time we’ve seen them serve a customer a bowl that wasn’t stacked up right to the top.

The Eat Pray Love Bowl is a great way to kick off your day as it combines local papaya, star fruit, dragon fruit and more to give you loads of energy!

Motion Cafe

If you want raw vegan food or vegetarian dishes to delight your taste buds, you may want to pay a visit to Motion Cafe.

It’s full of hip, healthy young folks in search of the perfect protein-rich but meat-free delight.

We were impressed to find that they even have a paleo section on their menu if you want to eat the same way as your ancestors did!

Canteen

They have a sign at Canteen that welcomes “hipsters, beardies and hippies” and that’s exactly the kind of surfer vibe that you find inside.

It’s very popular among the local expat community to wash away their hangovers from the previous evening with the strongest coffee in Canggu.

Their all-day breakfast can be a lifesaver if you drank enough to fill a swimming pool with alcohol the night before.

Bottega Italiana

This hipster Italian place is a great choice for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

It’s also a great place for a bit of people watching and we like to grab one of their tasty deli sandwiches and just let the world go by here.

We can also recommend their Nutella-filled pastry offerings, which are remarkably sweet and moreish.

Digital nomads will be pleased to learn that this is a worker-friendly cafe and you can enjoy free Wi-Fi with your coffee.

Banh Mi & Beans

Who doesn’t love the greatest Vietnamese meal ever invented, the Bah Mi? It’s just the best way to get yourself prepared for a hectic day.

Their Banh Mi here is extremely authentic (as you’d hope given the name of this cafe) and the baguettes are fresh and soft and the pate, cheese and salad mix is just perfect.

The coffee’s not quite as strong and bitter as it is in Vietnam, but we have to think that’s a good thing. The local coffee beans are rather more nuanced than Vietnamese beans.

The presentation of the food here is excellent, too and you’ll be snapping away for Instagram in an instant!

Satu Satu Coffee Company

Satu Satu is owned and operated by a local family and they have their own coffee from their own plantation at this cafe.

It’s one of the most affordable Canggu cafes that we’ve ever been to and they offer an excellent range of local and international food to go with the coffee.

They are also extremely digital nomad-friendly and nobody is going to give you a hard time if you plug your laptop in for a few hours here.

Strawberry Fields

OK, there’s an argument to be made that this cafe on the border of Canggu is closer to Seminyak, but it is still in Canggu, according to the map.

It has absolutely excellent burgers and we’re always happy to go whether it’s for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

They also have some of the most Instagrammable food on the island, so remember your camera.

And the food menu is excellent and their coffee is great too. It’s on the site of FINNS Recreation Club and we love to go there after spending some time in the onsite fitness facilities.

We often take a dip in the swimming pool afterwards, too.
