If you’re in the mood for amazing Balinese food, then you can’t go wrong with Hujan Locale.
In fact, we’d say that they take Balinese cuisine to the next level.
However, they also do some wonderful drinks and it would be a grave disservice not to count them among the best cocktail bars in Ubud.
We particularly like that they have a cocktail cart, so we don’t have to go to the bar. It comes to us.

In the day, this bar has a wonderful vibe and you can enjoy their huge and pleasant beer garden, watch the big screen TVs and enjoy sporting events.

You have to love a bar where they’ve put their own twist on the classic cocktail, The Old Fashioned.
And Ibu Susu’s Ubud Old Fashioned is very, very good, indeed. In fact, their whole cocktail menu is worth visiting at least once per item.
It’s also worth noting that they make amazing food, too, and if you want a pork belly steamed bun, you can’t beat this place. It rocks.

Boliche Bar @ Cantina Rooftop
Boliche is new, but there’s been a bar on this spot for nearly 50 years, and thus, it has a long, distinguished heritage to carry on its shoulders.
Fortunately, it lives up to this, and if you love music (you can get anything from soul to Sgt Peppers depending on the night) and mixology, you will love this place.
Later on in the evenings, they have a live DJ who always aims to please. Just be aware that you need to message them before you go – to get the password that gets you through the door.

If you’re less about the cocktails and more about the fruits of the vine, you can’t go wrong with Belle.
They have a generous wine list (much of which is available by the glass as well as the bottle) and a warm and pleasant atmosphere.
Try their famous “Bali Grazing Boards” if you want something to eat. They offer local flavours in a wide variety of fashions. Yum.

Kyoka has become a big presence in the Ubud bar scene, and we think that might be down to its inspired use of bold flavours in its cocktail creations.
We recommend starting with dinner here, as they make some excellent Japanese food, and then slowly transitioning to the cocktail menu.
Their Sea-Slide with their own nori-infused tequila is one of the most memorable drinks we’ve ever had on this island.

Bisma 8 is out in the rainforest, and if you love the thought of cocktails in the jungle, you’re not going to be disappointed by Copper Kitchen & bar.

You can’t fail to love a bar that works the local elixir into its cocktail titles, and you have to try the “I want to Jamu with you” before you try anything else on the menu.
They’re very focused on using local ingredients at the Current Social Club, and we think that’s very admirable.
They have some awesome jam sessions for you to enjoy on the music side of things and the occasional flamenco night, too.

While many of the bars in Ubud and in Bali at large are trying to wow their customers with an upscale and upmarket ethos, No Mas is just having fun.
The sign says, “easy food, stiff drinks, failed marriages, bad app ideas…” and that works for us.

Many folks consider the cocktail bar at Dumbo to be among the finest cocktail bars on the island as a whole.
Certainly, they make some incredible signature cocktails, and the food here is top-notch and mostly cooked in lovely wood-fired ovens.
There’s no live music but they do have an incredible collection of vinyl for you to choose your own tunes from.

This rather wonderful place is famous for its food because of its emphasis on sweet dishes rather than savoury.
But it’s also an excellent cocktail bar, and if you want a salted caramel espresso martini to die for, you’ll find it here.

Pasir
The Monkey Forest Road, or Jalan Monkey Forest, is home to a lot of different bars and restaurants. One of our favourites is Pasir.
The name Pasir means “sand” in the native language, and it’s meant to evoke a feeling of being by the sea even when you are not.
We think their amazing cocktails and rich seafood menu do a sublime job of capturing the essence of island life.

Jati Bar @ Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan
As you would expect from the Four Seasons, Jati Bar is not a cheap drinking destination, but it’s a fantastic place to go for some serious drinks.
We love that they barrel-age their cocktails in artisan terracotta casks to give them a smooth, deep texture that is unrivalled elsewhere.
They also do a lot of local infusions of spirits with fruits and herbs from the island. Cocktail bars don’t get much better than this.

Night Rooster
This speakeasy-style cocktail bar has a resident mixologist known as Raka, who crafts some of the finest cocktails in Ubud.
The things he can do with lime juice alone will blow your mind. His refined techniques are incredible to observe as he goes about creating drinks to remember.
Of course, Night Rooster is part of the Locavore restaurant chain and has been ranked in the top 50 bars in Asia. Yes, it’s that good.

Ambar @ Mandapa – A Ritz Carlton Reserve
Mandapa may be the most luxurious resort on an island overflowing with luxury resorts, and as you’d expect, there’s an old-world atmosphere here that’s hard to emulate elsewhere.
This is where you come for a sundowner to lounge in comfort, looking out over the valley below and enjoying original creations and all the classics as your heart desires.
We’d recommend bringing a date or someone you really want to impress.

Lazy Cats probably doesn’t see too many parties, because it’s just not got that vibe.
What Lazy Cats is good for is a cozy evening session with some good friends looking for conversation and laughs, and it excels at this.

The Laughing Buddha Bar is nearly always packed because it’s nearly always got great live music and a crowd looking for a good time.
It’s very easy to find as it’s one of the first places on Monkey Forest Road, and you will probably hear the good times before you experience them there.
We recommend cold Bintangs and lots of dancing to get your best foot forward here.

Murni’s restaurant is an iconic part of Ubud life, and it’s been in the area for over 30 years, but what many people don’t seem to know is that this bar has been there for all that time, too.
The cocktail list might be a little conservative, but that’s OK. It’s quite a conservative-looking place that seeks to preserve a touch of “old Bali” for new generations.

It’s tucked down the end of a quiet little street, but there’s nothing quiet about Hideout Bar inside.
We found that they had amazing live music, and the drinks were among the cheapest in the area. They also have a decent offering of shisha if you like a fruit-flavoured smoke of the evening.
Many people say they keep going back here just because of how friendly the staff are.

The Lair gets its name from its slightly secretive location under the unused wooden bridge just outside the town of Ubud proper.

If you’re in the mood for dancing the night away with friends and strangers all intent on having a fabulous time, this is where to be.
It’s got a very local vibe, and a lot of the drinks are Arak-based, which may make it one of the most authentic cocktail bars in Bali!
Many of the best local bands have played at this bar over the years, and there’s always a song to be found in an evening spent here.

Yes! The best bars in Ubud can easily compete with anything that the rest of the country can offer.
