Mentari Lovina Bar & Kitchen, Lovina
This is a great place for a drink in Lovina. They do some amazing cocktails here and the food is excellent too. We can recommend the Mahi-Mahi.
Lovina is the best place in Bali for dolphin watching and once you’ve enjoyed the show, Mentari is the place to go and talk about it over a cold drink.

Ole Beach Bar, Legian
This bar in Legian is on the pricey side, but we think the sunsets are worth the price of a drink or two.
The chairs are super comfortable, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable about what they serve.
They have live music some nights, so if you stick around, you might get a treat for your ears, too!

Sunset Beach Bar & Grill @ The InterContinental Resort
As you’d expect from a brand as big as The InterContinental, this is a v very plush beach bar.
The views are dramatic, and the nearby white sandy beach is lovely for a post-drink stroll.
This island is for those who need fresh local ingredients and signature cocktails before they indulge in the island’s upscale nightlife.

Rock Bar @ AYANA Resort
The Rock Bar is named for the fantastic view of the rock formation nearby from the deck of this bar as the Indian Ocean splashes all around you.
They only take reservations from resort guests, so you must go early to guarantee a seat – it’s very popular.
There’s also a minimum 300,000 IDR spend per person, but that will be easy given the prices here.
It’s worth it, though. Rock Bar offers one of the most unique experiences for a beach bar anywhere in Bali.

Othree Beach Bar
This is a very family-friendly beach bar that often has local and international DJs spinning discs around sunset.
There’s an enjoyable view out over the ocean here, and they have that full beach service of bean bags and sun loungers.
The drinks and the people-watching are good, but the food can be variable. The smoothie bowls are consistent, though.
They’re open early, so if you’re in the Echo Beach area, you could go for breakfast and stay for a while.

Bamboo Beach Bar & Lounge
This is a great place to have a suitable feed by the ocean. Tunqu pizza is one of the tastiest things we’ve ever had on a pizza.
The music in the daytime is a pleasant greatest hits of the 1970s, and that worked for us.
But if you want something more modern, turn up for the happy hour with 2-for-1 cocktails and DJs pushing out the latest tunes.
The bamboo building is cool to look at, and you will enjoy the bar’s swing seats if you can catch them (they’re very popular).

This humble sports bar is famous for its fantastic cocktails and outdoor seating.
Their varied menu includes plenty of vegan-friendly choices for plant-based eaters.
You can also watch sports on the screens inside, and they have a pool table, which can get busy and boisterous at times.
Some nights, they also have live music; if you fancy some classic guitar work, you’ll enjoy what they do.

Kulkil Beach House, Nusa Dua
This lovely gastronomic beach bar is our place. It’s part of “The Laguna Luxury Collection”, so you know it won’t be cheap (and has a minimum spend).
However, given the quality of their offerings, it’s excellent value for money, and you can lay on a sunbed by the infinity pool and enjoy their fantastic cocktails.
We were impressed by their salads, and they do a superb range of tapas to give you something to graze on while you drink.

Bulgari Bar @ BVLGARI Resort Bali
As this is one of the swankiest and most expensive resorts on the island, you must dress to impress to get in.
It’s worth the effort, though, as the bar sits beside the ocean and is so peaceful. You can hear the wind and waves and feel like you’re in paradise.
There’s an infinity pool here, and you can pay for access. Remember that if you drink all day here, you may need a healthy credit card balance to cover the final tally.
We like the desserts they serve at Bulgari Bar. They look great on Instagram and taste amazing!

Hard Rock Bali
Do you know what you’re getting with Hard Rock? It’s a family-friendly rock-themed gastropub chain that reaches the whole world.
And it does so because it’s pretty darned good.
This Hard Rock faces right onto the beach, and you can enjoy a stunning view of the Indian Ocean while sipping on one of their famous “Hurricane Glass Cocktails”.
The menu comprises standard pub fare with some local twists, but it’s decent enough and will undoubtedly keep any children you have with you very happy.

This is a very premium location, and the prices reflect that, but if you want a place with some stunning natural beauty to enjoy while you drink, Hai Bar & Grill is a great choice.
We love a bit of upscale beach drinking, and while this is not an everyday spot for most, it’s great for a special occasion.

Scooby Doo Beach Bar, Nusa Lembongan
We weren’t overly impressed by the Scooby Doo hotel, but the bar is an excellent place to spend an evening on Nusa Lembongan.
We found the food to be solid international dishes in plentiful portions and tasty.
The drinks are good value for money, and the ocean view is lovely.
It’s in a charming spot, and the local fishermen occasionally pop in for a quick Bintang, too.

Flippas Bar @ FINNS Beach Club
If you want to watch the surfers come in on the waves while you enjoy a drink at the world’s best beach club, then you will want to go to Flippas.
They even keep spotlights on the ocean after sunset so that you can enjoy night surfing here!
We recommend you get here before sunset with friends and slowly work through the exciting cocktail list.

Surfer Beach Bar & Cafe
This is one of the most exclusive and hard-to-find beach shack-style bars in Bali, but it’s worth the effort.
It’s 100% authentic Balinese, and they’ll be happy to see you lounging by the pool with one of their drinks.
It’s not just a pool bar, it’s a full-access beach bar, and you can paddle out to the local reef in under 5 minutes from here.
Surfers love the place and often stay at the Nusa Indah Bungalow, where the bar is based.

Muntigs Bar & Restaurant
New Zealanders say that this place reminds them of Hawkes Bay because of the incredible atmosphere that the beach has here.
The menu has some excellent vegan options alongside plenty of more carnivorous choices.
Book a table in advance and specify you want one overlooking the water and get there for sunset.
The view is impressive, and the fantastic food and the drinks make the night perfect at Muntigs.

Bakung Beach Bar & Warung
You know what to expect at a warung, and Bakung Beach Bar does not disappoint.
You get cold beer and excellent local dishes for a very reasonable price (though we confess, we wish the portions were just a little more significant).
They have good Wi-Fi and are okay with digital nomads spending some time working out of the bar.
So, why not do your emails and enjoy a few sundowners before heading home?

The Island Ceningan Beach Bar
OK, it’s out of the way, but you’ll love this little beach bar if you try to get to it.
You can rest in a hammock and lazily sway back and forth with a cocktail or opt for a swing in the sea!
If you’re dressed for it, you can also use their pool, which is a decent size and ideal for a hot, sunny day.
The sunsets here are super impressive and don’t have any of that haze you get closer to the mainland.

Mista Ceningan Beach Bar
We like their modern take on Indonesian food at this attractive little bar; our kids loved it.
It’s a very family-friendly place, and they will even lend you towels if your kids want to splash in their pool!
The view from this restaurant is lush, with an unspoiled vista across the ocean.
They have sun loungers available for their guests, too. So, relax and let the world go by.

Santhi Bar, Lovina
This little beach bar sits on the corner of a line of local restaurants, and we found it clean and welcoming.
It’s tiny, but if you want local comfort food and some cheap Bintangs, you’ll find it to your taste.
We also found that they do an excellent breakfast and supply some of the best coffee in Bali to wash it down.
The white sand of the local beach calls to us, and when the sun sets, it’s spectacularly pretty.

Sindy Surf & Beach Bar
This female-run bar is famous for being friendly and welcoming. They also won’t be pushy and try and sell you stuff you don’t need, which is a nice change for a bar on Kuta Beach.
If you love to surf and enjoy a few icy Bintangs while you do, then you’ll be in heaven here.
They provide very comfortable seating under the shade of local palm trees, which is what island life is all about.

Simpson’s Kuta Beach
This lovely little beach bar is run by Simpson & Robbie, and they’re very friendly and chatty.
You can hire a surfboard here and get lessons, too, making it a great place to start surfing.
Kids are welcome, the beach makes an excellent place to enjoy and explore while staying close to mum and dad.
This is the kind of place to sink a few cold Bintangs while watching the waves splash on the shore.

Ella N Dut Beach Bar
Ella and Dut are indeed the owners of this bar and we have to say that Dut seems to be the happiest person in Bali for it.
We’ve never known Dut to do anything but smile and be kind and helpful.
It’s a superb little bar in Legian to enjoy a cold one on the beach at sunset and you just know you’re going to come back again and again.
We like that it’s always super clean and the prices are very reasonable, you’re not going to end up broke here.

Summer House Beach Bar
This little bar on Double Six Beach can deliver ice-cold beers with aplomb, and they’re also open for surfing lessons.
Jimmy and Dedy run the place; they’re very friendly, professional and efficient. They’ll be happy to keep solo travellers in conversation, too.
The bar has a friendly atmosphere, and we’ve found that it’s a solid way to meet new friends on the island.
We like that the prices are very reasonable too, in stark contrast to some of their neighbours.

The Deck Beach Bar Legian
This little bar has only been open for a while on Double Six Beach.
They often have an unofficial open mic night, and people bring their guitars to the beach and have a post-sundown sing-a-long.
You can easily relax or join in with the fun, and there’s no doubt that you can get some exciting cocktails here to help make that choice.
We wish the seating were a little bit more comfortable.

Telu @ Four Seasons Resort Bali, Jimbaran Bay
As you might expect from one of Bali’s most expensive beach resorts, Telu is an upscale cocktail bar with stunning beach views.
We love their signature cocktails, and the Coral Guardian, made of Palwana Arak, Spiced Nusa Cana, Panda, Peanuts, Lime & Dragon Fruit Jam, is exceptional.
You won’t find it anywhere else in Bali but Telu, either.
They can also offer cocktail-making classes if you want to learn how to make authentic Indonesian drinks when you return home.

The Reef @ Apurva Kempinski Bali
The reef is one of the most elegant places for a sundowner in Bali. It’s also one of the most expensive.
The Kempinski aims to push from 5-star to 6-star (there’s no actual 6-star hotel rating, mind you, but since Dubai called the Burj Dubai a 6-star hotel, luxury brands have aspired to it).
And if you want some time on a lovely beachfront, shaded by tropical gardens and trees? You might think they’ve achieved it too.
The Kempski also has an excellent range of dining options once you’ve finished lazing around in the sun for the day.

Warung Pantai
This is your traditional bean bag in the sand-type beach shack bar, and it’s great.
They’re open from breakfast, and the food is delicious and reasonably priced.
It’s not the most accessible place to park, so you might need to walk a little to get there.
The sunset is lovely, and you will get authentic Balinese service here.

Cliffhanger
This place can look deserted from the main road, but be aware it won’t be.
The food is excellent here, and our German friend says the schnitzel here is better than anything he ever had in Germany or Austria!
The spectacular view is best enjoyed perched in a wicker chair watching the sunset.
It’s also an excellent place for a romantic meal with someone special. It’s never too noisy or crowded.

Platinum Bar has spectacular views of the ocean, and it’s one of the most popular bars at FINNS because of its gorgeous, extra-spacious layout.
We recommend getting to FINNS earlier in the evening if you want, as tables here can fill up very quickly.
Then, it’s time to work through one of the best and most consistent cocktail menus anywhere in the world. Enjoy the happy hour from 8pm – 9pm!
