FAQS

How Much Does It Cost To Buy A Surfboard In Bali?

You’ll find a shortboard from around $400 USD (that’s about $600 AUD) or a longboard for $700 USD (that’s about $1000 AUD).

However, you can spend much more than that if you want your board to be handcrafted by one of the local brands and to be of the finest quality materials.

Boards for surfing can be quite cheap or they can be very expensive indeed. Clothing such as boardshorts will add more to the costs for most surfers too.

Who Is The Owner Of BGS Bali?

The owner of BGS Bali is a local called Komang and he’s been operating more than just a surf shop in several locations on the island for about 20 years now.

If you want a large range of boards from top brands like Hayden Shapes, Brusco, etc. then it’s always a good idea for surfers to pop into a branch of BGS.

They also, rather like Thruster Club (the infamous surf restaurant at the White Monkey Surf Shop) have breakfast, lunch and dinner menus and you can get something to drink in the cafe too.

Should I Bring My Own Surfboard To Bali?

You can bring your own board to Bali but you can also rent or buy one to get out on the waves here easily enough.

As you can see you can choose a surf shop from any of the 17 options on our list above and it’s easy to pick up accessories at the local surf shacks on the beaches and near almost every hotel on a beach in Bali.

Where Can Beginners Surf In Bali?

There’s no law stopping a beginner surfer in Bali from surfing anywhere. However, it’s fair to say that some places are easier than others.

Top surf spots for a beginner include Padang Padang’s rights (“baby padang”), Dreamland Beach’s beach break, Kuta Beach’s gentle gradient, Jimbaran’s sheltered bay and soft waves and Canggu for mellow and manageable waves.
