Teletubbies Hills, Bali: Everything You Need To Know About Bali’s Iconic Hillside

Teletubbies Hill (also known as Bukit Teletubbies – the word “Bukit” means “hill” in Bahasa Indonesia) is a charming site on the island of Nusa Penida, off the coast of mainland Bali.

It takes its name from the famous children’s show and while it’s not the same hill as the one seen in the show, it’s a lovely place to capture some memories on this small island in the Indian Ocean.

Here’s what you need to know to visit Teletubbies Hill and get the best out of it.

What’s The Best Time To Go To Teletubbies Hill?

We have a simple rule in Bali, if you want to visit anywhere that’s popular with tourists, the best time to go is early in the morning as you will avoid the crowds.

However, this isn’t always easy on Nusa Penida, particularly if you’re on a day trip, which is why we always recommend spending, at least, 2 or 3 days on the island and also visiting Nusa Lembongan when you do.

There is no bad time of year to visit Bali, though, and in fact, you might prefer to see the Teletubbies Hill in the rainy season as that’s when the land is at its greenest and most verdant.

Don’t worry it doesn’t rain all day in the rainy season, in fact, we see over 8 hours of sunshine a day throughout that time of year on average

You can take as many photos or make as many videos as you like too and there’s no charge for doing so. Just remember to show some consideration for other visitors if you do.

What To Expect At Teletubbies Hills

It’s a group of big, half-spherical hills, that are very reminiscent of the Chocolate Hills in the Philippines.

It’s a pleasant place to stop for a few photographs and a great place to use a drone. They look best in the rainy season but their colours are still fascinating in the dry season.

Unless you want to go hiking, you probably won’t spend a long time at Teletubbies Hill, but we think you will be glad that you visited the Bukit Teletubbies, there’s something soothing about them.

Other Things To Do In Nusa Penida

There are plenty of other things to do in Nusa Penida and the Nusa Islands including:

  • Angel’s Billabong – this is one of the most dramatic sites on the island and Angel’s Billabong offers a gorgeous but potentially deadly natural infinity pool to visitors.

  • Diamond Beach – it’s near-universally agreed that in a land of nice beaches, Diamond Beach is the best of the beaches on Penida Island, so don’t miss it.

  • Devil’s Tears – if you love to see the power of the sea, then don’t skip a visit to the Devil’s Tears, it’s awesome.

You can also find complete guides to the neighbouring islands of Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan on our site. It’s always a good idea to visit, at least, Nusa Lembongan as well as Nusa Penida.
