FAQs

Which Is The Best Market In Bali?

It very much depends on what you’re looking to buy but we’d say the best market in Bali is probably Ubud Art Market or Sukawati Art Market. They’re both great places to pick up some fresh produce or cooked food and browse for souvenirs and locally produced arts and crafts.

If you haggle, well, you can find some excellent bargains and we can’t imagine an Ubud itinerary without the art market there.

Which Market Is Cheapest In Bali?

We don’t think that there’s a definitive answer to this, because it depends on what you want to buy but we think Sukawati Market is the cheapest place for things most visitors to Bali are going to want to buy.

It’s certainly cheaper than Ubud Market which tends to have higher prices because its handicrafts, clothes, art, etc. tend to appeal to tourists in Ubud. Sukawati is only a short drive from Ubud and if you choose to visit that art market instead, you will find healthy prices and far fewer crowds among the artisans displaying their wares.

Is There A Floating Market In Bali?

Yes, though it’s nothing like the floating markets in other parts of Southeast Asia. Instead, it’s a novelty floating market that is part of the new Icon Mall complex in Sanur.

In essence, it’s a bunch of boat-shaped stalls for vendors to sell community-made products to visitors. It’s only just opened as we go to press but we’d expect it to be more expensive than most markets as the mall is going to charge higher stand rental than other markets do.

Is It Cheaper To Shop In Bali?

Maybe. It’s cheaper to shop in Bali for certain products – anything locally produced will cost less in Bali than it does in most places overseas (unless you’re buying in bulk or directly through an importer).

But anything produced elsewhere in the world can be bought more cheaply elsewhere, Indonesia levies some fairly hefty import duties on some products, which pushes the price up on the shelf.

Final Thoughts On Weekend Markets In Bali

If you love organic farmers and local artisans then there’s a Sunday Market somewhere in Bali for you. The weekend markets are great for buying everything from essential oils to clothes and handicrafts.

Market shopping can be a great way to explore the island, make new friends and support the community.

But be aware that market times can change at any time and you should always make sure a market is actually happening before you get up early in the morning in pursuit of clothing bargains.
