What To Expect On A Bali Swing Ride?

Bali swings are just like the swings you used to use on the playground as a child, just much, much bigger and better.

You will need to be secured to the swing for safety’s sake. Some companies use lap straps or seatbelts and others require you to wear a full body harness.

It’s up to you which option you go for. We know harnesses don’t look as cool in Instagram photos but we’re not going to tell you how much protection is enough protection, either.

Are These Swings 100% Safe To Ride On?

Nothing is 100% safe to ride on not even the escalator in your favourite shopping mall.

Bali swings have a pretty good safety track record but there’s a reason you sign a liability waiver before you get on the swing, they are not 100% safe.

We can find only one record of people being killed using swings in Bali and if you consider the thousands of people that use them every day, that probably makes them about as safe as driving a car and a lot safer than driving a scooter on Bali’s roads.

It’s worth noting that the man who died on the swing wasn’t actually meant to be holding on to the swing, he’d stepped forward to push his child in the swing and for some reason, he held on to the swing and then fell to his death.

At this moment in time, however, there is no regulator of Bali Swing experiences and you need to decide for yourself if that super extreme swing picture is worth the risks you will take to get it.

We’ve rounded up the 16 main swing experiences in Bali for you. There are other swings all over the islands and many of them are much smaller and some are even free to use.

However, each of the following swings is owned and operated by a business that ensures they are regularly inspected and that there are people on hand to give you advice and assistance when it comes to your swing.

We are not endorsing any of these companies and you always swing at your own risk, but we feel that these are the safest extreme swing businesses in Bali today.

Tegalalang Rice Terrace Swing: Harness Rides Above The Rice Terraces

Not far away from the Uma Pakel swing you will find another Tegalang Rice Terrace Swing and this one is mounted between a pair of palm trees!

In fact, there’s a second swing further up the rice terraces here too and it’s also mounted on palm trees.

It’s the higher swing that provides the best photos if you want to look like you’re dangling your feet way above the world.

This swing requires that all users wear a harness which might you off if you want to wear nice clothes for Instagram.

If you’re in East Bali, then the Sideman Adventure might be the swing you are looking for.

It’s high up on a hillside offering views over the rice paddies, local hills, and of the massive live volcano Mount Agung!

This is a long way from the most touristed places in Bali and it tends to be quieter and more serene than other swing sights.

Both Tuak and Arak are made here. These are local drinks made from palm trees and they can be quite potent. It’s best to try them after you’ve got both feet back on the ground.

Bali Swing: Bali Swings From Tiny To An Extreme Swing Ride

Bali swing

This classic jungle swing company was the first on the island and is considered among the very best.

The swings here start at 10 meters above the ground, but adrenalin junkies can opt for the biggest of them all which is 78 meters above ground!

This Bali swing operates every day and it’s quite an expensive experience but you don’t have to swing.

You can pay for access to the site and then take photos in the “hanging nests” which are human-sized bird nests placed at strategic viewpoints, instead.

They also have a very pleasant butterfly garden on site.

Wanagiri Hidden Hills Swing: A Whimsical Place Above The Lakes

The Wanagiri Hidden Hills swing is quite far north and the location in the Wanagiri Hidden Hills is near Lake Tamblingan and Lake Buyan.

However, it’s much cooler here than at some other sites and you’re less likely to be sweating in your swing pics.

They have a bunch of other stuff that comes bundled with the entry fee and if you want photos of human-sized teacups, tree houses, a local reinterpretation of the Eiffel Tower, etc. then it’s pretty good value.

We’d also point out that the views over the lakes are incredible from here and it’s a lovely place to spend some time.

Ubud Swing @ Zen Hideaway: Swing In The Rice Terraces

Zen Hideaway is a resort in Central Ubud and it has become famous for the swing that hangs from the coconut trees there. The coconut trees don’t appear to mind carrying the swing, either.

You’ll find Zen Hideaway near the village of Bangkasa and the view over the Ayung River from this site is spectacular. The local rice terraces look great from here too.

However, it’s quite expensive for a swing site, they do give priority to resort guests and it’s a bit of a trek to get to.

Fortunately, there’s another swing nearby the Dewa Swing which reduces your chances of not getting an Ubud swing dramatically.

Uma Pakel Swing: Spend Time In A Hummingbird’s Nest

The Uma Pakel swing is near the Tegalagang Rice Terraces and its also an agrotourism park with a focus on Kopi Luwak.

Kopi Luwak is the local coffee that uses coffee beans that have been eaten by civet cats and then pooped back out again. This gives the mix a slightly acidic edge prized by connoisseurs of coffee everywhere.

The swing here is reasonably priced and your entrance fee includes access to the coffee plantation and some free coffee.

You can also get an extra photo op in a hummingbird’s nest when you use the edge swing at the Uma Pakel swing and plantation.

This place is really an Instagrammer’s heaven and there’s a shot for everyone here.

Desa Swing: Near The Zen Hideaway

If you’re not able to get into the Zen Hideaway then go to Desa Swing which is very nearby and always has room for just one more visitor.

The views of the Ayung River here are absolutely awesome and it’s easy to relax and go hands-free with the excellent safety support that looks like it’s part of the swing.

They also have a sky bike ride here which you might enjoy for an additional thrill!

Bali Nests: Nusa Penida’s Best Swings

If you’re on the little island of Nusa Penida you might enjoy this awesome collection of human-sized bird’s nests and a swing on the cliff top.

It’s very reasonably priced (though you will need to get a taxi to the destination which might make it a bit more expensive than an Ubud swing experience).

The photos you take here will be truly dramatic, though.

The Molenteng Swing: Swinging By The T-Rex

This swing is also on Nusa Penida and it’s very close to the Diamond Beach and the famous T-Rex viewpoint.

It’s super cheap to get into the area and the swing ride isn’t expensive either. We think this is the best beach swing in all of Bali.

Terrace River Pool Swing: Swings For Couples

bali swing

The Terrace River Pool Swing may be the biggest swing complex of them all. You can find 15 swings here divided into three different categories.

The most popular swing at the Terrace River Pool Swing is the couple swing which is a tandem swing set up that clears the ground by 45 meters!

The Terrace River Pool swings are really popular and represent excellent value for money, though you do have to pay for each ride separately rather than buying a pass.

There are free tea and coffee samples from local plantations served throughout the day here, which is awesome.

LeKaja Bali Swing: Unlimited Swinging

These swings, collectively known as the LeKaja Bali Swing Adventure, are in heights between 10 and 15 meters above the ground.

This is an excellent chance to swing through the tropical jungle at a relatively sensible clearance from the ground. It’s not as intimidating as some of the other swing environments.

One thing we really like about this operation is that you can swing as many times as you like and stay as long as you like (within the opening hours, of course) for a single free.

Alas Harum Swing: Super Extreme Swing Ride

The Alas Harum Swing is another Ubud-based swing and it’s a very popular spot because of the incredible scenery.

We love the ape’s head that they’ve carved into the Tegallalang Rice Terraces below.

You will also find that it’s home to the largest luwak statue in the whole of Indonesia.

The glass-floored terrace is a great place for photos if you really don’t want to get on a swing.

Aloha Ubud Swing: Coffee Plantation Tour Included

If you want a lovely view of the Tegallalang rice terraces then you will find it at the Aloha Ubud Swing.

They have five swings to choose from ranging between 10 meters and 60 meters above the jungle canopy.

Feel free to wear your favourite Instagram dress for this one, the safety straps are nearly invisible.

After your visit, you should see the Subak Museum nearby which is a great way to learn about the local agricultural trade.
