What Visa Do You Need To Visit Bali From Australia
Visa On Arrival B1 (VoA)
For short tourism visits under 30 days, the most popular choice is a simple Visa on arrival or B1, which you can get directly at the Bali airport after landing.
You can also order it online (e-VoA), but the system is not working consistently. The price is 500,000 IDR (roughly 48 AUD).
This visa can be extended one time for another 30 days.
It doesn’t allow any work or business activities in Indonesia.
60 Days Tourist Visa
Also called a social visa, allows you to stay 60 days. After that, you may do a visa run and return to Bali for another 60 days. However, if you’re planning to stay in Bali long-term it is best to sort out the correct visa from the beginning.
This visa costs 1,500,000 IDR (around 143 AUD).
Digital Nomad Visa E33G
Australians working remotely for a company can apply for a remote worker multi-entry visa that allows them to stay in Bali (and travel around Indonesia) for 1 year.
The price is 150 USD (220 AUD) + 2,700,000 IDR (256 AUD).
There are many other visa options available depending on your purpose of visit, from investing to performing. The official website has all the needed instructions and most of the times you can apply by yourself avoiding overpaying agent fees.
Arriving At Denpasar Airport
Bali’s airport is located in Denpasar and is called Denpasar Bali I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. It is a relatively small airport. There is no public transport connecting the airport to tourist areas.
Useful apps to install: taxi and food delivery apps Grab and Gojek. You can install the AirAsia Move app to check exclusive flight deals and buy cheap tickets. To book adventures you can use Klook, Airbnb, or a specialized Bali tour agency.
Once You Landed In Bali
Scan the QR code either before boarding the plane at Perth or once landed in Bali to fill out a customs declaration. It is easy and takes no longer than 5 minutes. Screenshot the QR at the end of the procedure.
Bali Airport has an average Wi-Fi so you will be able to connect and check your address or any other info.
If you did your visa online and have a biometric passport, use automatic gates.
If you need to get a visa on arrival, follow the signs. The desk is in the middle of the passport control hall.
After the passport control you can claim you luggage.
The area behind is the customs where you will show your QR code. Afterwards you may be asked to scan your bags, but it doesn’t happen often.
If you’re staying longer than 90 days, right after the customs there will be a room where you need to register your phone. According to the Indonesian policies, foreigners staying long-term must pay import tax on the imported phones (your personal phone is considered imported) and register the IMEI in the system.
Getting From Bali Airport To Your Accommodation
Once you landed, picked up your luggage, and were cleared by the customs, you will exit in the arrivals hall.
Follow the hall, you will pass by a few shops and taxi booths. After a long line of people waiting for their friends, family, and clients, you will finally exit to the parking area.
You will see a Circle K mini mart in front of you and on its right side the instant booking booths for online taxis: Grab and Gojek. The instant booking is easy: you open the app, the staff enters a code of the driver who is available to depart right now and the ride appears in your phone.
We recommend using one of these instead of private drivers hustling in the airport to get a fair price and a safe ride that is fully registered in the app and insured. The rates may be higher during bad weather and at night.
Getting from the airport to Canggu city centre takes around 1-1.5 hours.
To Kuta only 20-30 minutes.
To Ubud 2-2,5 hours.
You should also contact your hotel, they may have an airport pick-up service.
Travelling Tips Flying Home From Bali To Perth
Double-check the visa validity and make sure you’re not overstaying your tourist visa as the fine is 1,000,000 IDR/day (95 AUD) with a risk on being added to a black list.
Order the taxi in advance, the traffic on the island can be quite challenging and you don’t need unnecessary stress.
Tell the driver that you need International Departures. The departure hall is on the second level and the driver can drop you off there.
If you have leftover IDR change them beforehand, the rates at the airport may not be good.
Do not plan on travelling during Balinese silent day – Nyepi – the airport will be shut down. Nyepi 2025 is from 29 to 30th March, and Nyepi 2026 is on March 19th to 20th.
