Manuaba waterfall or Air Terjun Manuaba in Indonesian is a scenic waterfall hidden in Ubud on a curve of one of the many rivers.

In fact, visitors to Manuaba Waterfall actually will enjoy two waterfalls on a loop circuit walking path called simply Manuaba Waterfall 1 (closest) and Manuaba Waterfall 2 (farthest).

The two unique waterfalls are of medium height and both have natural pools at their bottom. Unlike many other waterfalls around, you will walk through a canyon to get to the second fall – a really fun adventure!

For locals, Manuaba waterfall is considered one of the 11 sacred sites with holy water in the village as the waters here were blessed by the Lake Batur ruler. Balinese Hindus believe these waters have a special quality to make your body and mind strong.

Things To Know Before Visiting Manuaba Waterfall

  • Opening hours are 9.00 am to 6.00 pm, every day. Arrive early if you want to avoid tourists and the heat.

  • Bring waterproof shoes or water shoes – there is a portion of the path where you need to walk into the river. Flip-flops won’t work here.

  • During the rainy season, access to the waterfall is not always safe, as water levels in the canyon you will need to cross rise fast (faster than you may think). The dry season is the safest time to visit.

  • Make sure you have the travel insurance covering trekking and adventurous activities.

  • Bring a swimsuit and a towel if you’re planning to get wet and swim. But only wear it when you swim. The waterfall is sacred and you need to be dressed appropriately.

How Do I Get To Manuaba Waterfall?

The ride itself to Manuaba waterfall is beautiful! You can rent a bike or a car, or simply order a taxi. It is a case when the Google Maps pin is actually correct, so you can follow it.

However, if you want to explore more on a day trip, we would highly recommend hiring a private driver who can wait for you and take you to lunch and sites to see around. For ex., there is also the Ulu Petanu Waterfall not so far!

From your hotel in Ubud, it is only a 15-minute bike ride. From Canggu or the international airport, it can take around 2-2.5 hrs to reach the destination.

Is There Any Entrance Fee At Manuaba Waterfall?

There is no official entrance fee at the Manuaba waterfall but you will be invited to leave a donation of 20,000 IDR (2 AUD) and we are certain the adventure is absolutely worth the money.

Bring cash, as bank transfers are only available for local cards.

Trek To The Waterfall: What To Expect

There is no wheelchair-accessible entrance or path at the moment, unfortunately, as there are rocks and steps.

Waterfalls are a short hike of 20-30 minutes total from the point where you buy tickets.

The path is well maintained and you can simply follow signs there is a map poster at the ticket “booth”, which you can take a picture of just in case. As it is a loop, it is impossible to get lost, you will return to the same parking lot.

A hike to this beautiful waterfall is not really a hike, but rather a peaceful walk through the Ubud jungle and bamboo forest and climbing some concrete steps made for tourists’ convenience. The place is completely surrounded by nature and lush jungles.

At the end of the trek to the waterfall location, you will need to walk through a small canyon where the river flows. The water levels are usually from ankle to knee-high.

You can also enjoy swimming in the natural pool with crystal clear waters by the second waterfall. The water will be chilly though!
