20 Best Sidemen Restaurants: Where To Find Quality Cuisine In The Sidemen Valley, Bali

The Sidemen Valley in East Bali is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the heavily touristed beach towns and Ubud and enjoy stunning views of rice fields and rice terraces and some of the best restaurants around.

We’ve found 20 great places in Sidemen where you can enjoy incredible views, tasty Balinese dishes and much more.

The 20 Best Sidemen Restaurants

We should preface this list by noting that most of the best restaurants in Sidemen don’t have a website or even an Instagram page.

This is not a reflection of their food but rather of the fact that Sidemen village is full of hidden gems that don’t have the budget of FINNS Beach Club or even a small hotel for marketing.

It’s a chance to experience local life and Balinese culture in East Bali while enjoying traditional Indonesian cuisine and to get offline for a change.

Sleeping Gajah Kitchen & Lounge

Sleeping Gajah Kitchen is the best-known local restaurant in Sidemen and most people consider it among the best restaurants in the area.

It’s in a gorgeous spot by the Telaga Waja River where you can see Mount Agung in the distance and the food is excellent. If you engage a local guide at any point, they’re bound to bring you to Sleeping Gajah Kitchen.

Asri Dining By Samanvaya

This lovely restaurant in an upscale resort offers a refined dining experience. It’s an open-air restaurant with a view over the local rice fields and serves incredible traditional Indonesian cuisine.

We loved the chicken satay at Asri Dining and we like the fact that they offer small plates, so you can try a bit of everything that takes your fancy.

This is a small family-run place that offers the kind of dining experience that you can only find in Bali. Mum and dad do the cooking, while their children serve the customers and it works surprisingly well.

Go with the chicken fried rice and curry and you’re going to be very glad that you came. By the time you’ve finished, you may feel like you’ve become part of the family!

The Bukit Artha

This basic warung does some excellent food if you can cope with the slightly uncomfortable seating. We tried the Ayam Goreng Pandan on our last visit and the chicken just melted in the mouth.

One thing everyone loves at The Bukit Artha is how incredibly reasonable the cost of the dining experience here is – your wallet won’t be crying when you’re done, that’s for certain.

Go with the Balinese Rjistaffel and you will be glad that you did, though everything on the menu here is pretty good and the pork in black pepper sauce is particularly delightful.

If you want good honest food, then this is one of the best restaurants in Sidemen to visit. It’s the longest established warung in the village, which has to be a good recommendation for its food.

This is the kind of restaurant in East Bali where we could spend a whole day enjoying the food and gazing out over the rice fields.

The setting of this warung is lovely and it’s surrounded by tall green trees which shields it from the local roads. There’s plenty of parking nearby too, which can be handy if you’re driving.

This is one of the best warungs in town for vegetarians and there’s an extensive plant-based menu. However, we had the babi guling, and it was excellent.

We had some of the spiciest and boldest sambal at Lihat Sawah that we’ve ever tasted and it was delicious. Try the slow-cooked chicken in coconut and mellow spices to accompany it, that was lovely too.

We also heartily recommend their passionfruit mojitos which are made with fresh passion fruit and go down super easily!

We don’t think you can beat a cup of coffee for 5,000 IDR and it’s a great indication of how much value you get for your money at Warung Ume Anyar.

It has a lovely 360-degree view over the valley and while you will have to wait for your food here, that’s because it’s freshly prepared and worth waiting for.

Warung D’padi

We had a very unusual duck dish here which was more like the crispy aromatic duck of China than the usual Balinese duck dish, and it was lovely.

It was also nice to be served some crisps and peanuts (local style) as a welcome before diving intot he menu, small touches matter in our book.
