It has a very cozy atmosphere inside and the food quality is excellent and the portions are huge.

The Namaste Bungalows is best known for its delightful villa complex that appeals to families in search of luxurious but still mid-range accommodation on the island.
But the onsite restaurant is easily one of our best restaurants and their local food is hard to beat.
The satay ayam practically dances on your taste buds and it may be the best satay in Bali. We enjoyed the vegetable tempura too.
If you ask nicely, they’ll be happy to let you use the pool at the complex for a small additional fee.

This friendly and fresh warung is definitely worth a visit. It’s a bit more premium than some of the other local places but the cost difference is reflected in the food quality and the drinks too.
Their stand-out items are the grilled fish and the grilled octopus and between them, you don’t really need much more to eat a hearty meal.
The staff are very friendly here and so are the customers, it’s the sort of place where you can easily make a few friends if you raise a glass to the world.

This Chinese-Indonesian-inspired warung does nothing but excellent hearty local fare and we love it all.
Try their soup buntan (a local oxtail soup) and you’ll be in heaven. Their nasi goreng babi is also a real winner in our books.
Be warned though, in the middle of the evening they do tend to have a karaoke which may make your night or ruin it.
Go at lunchtime if you don’t want the music and sip a lovely dragon fruit juice before you eat.

Papila’s Coffee House
This simple coffee shop gets everything right. We love their attention to detail when it comes to preparing their piccolo latte, for example.
They also have some of the best air conditioning on the island and this, in turn, ensures you won’t be bothered by any flies while you eat.
Their doughnuts are really tasty and perfect for dunking in the coffee here. We’ll definitely go back in the future.

One thing we are surprised about on these islands is how few sushi options there are. You’d think all that fresh fish would lend itself naturally to sushi rolls…
This cute little place, however, does excellent sushi and it does it in a way that is truly Balinese in delivery.

Who’d have thought that somebody would open a curry house in Nusa Penida with a focus on Sri Lankan curry rather than Indian, but they have and the result is fabulous.
The butter curry chicken here was absolutely sumptuous and we lvoed eating it so much that we were tempted to order a second portion.

Aguan Shisha Bar & Kitchen
Most restaurants in Nusa Penida forbid smoking and rightly so, however, the kitchen and shisha bar areas here are kept separately and that;;s fine by us.
The food which is a mix of pretty much all major cuisines is surprisingly decent and reasonably priced.
The chicken tacos are made from locally sourced ingredients and are very tasty, indeed.

Warung DJ
Warung DJ is a no-frills local place with an emphasis on great Indonesian dishes and cold Bintang.
That’s how it should be and if you haven’t had an authentic Balinese meal, yet, during your time in Bali – Warung DJ is a good place to have it.
The staff here are always so happy to see you that, you feel great before you’ve even tried the chicken satay (which is fab).

Cocoleaf
This is one of our favourite restaurants in Nusa Penida and we love to visit whenever we’re on the island.
But be warned, we’re not the only ones who love this restaurant and the queues can get pretty hectic at peak times.
We really enjoyed the Tom Yum which is very authentic to the Thai version and their pancakes are a delight too.

We’re not sure why some places online claim that they serve African food here because they don’t.
What they do serve is a collection of local and international cuisine that will keep almost any group happy.
We love their purple dragon fruit milkshakes and would be happy to snack on their satay all day long.

Warung Pondok Nusa Penida
This charming beachfront warung serves lovely BBQ and we can’t decide if we like the grilled fish or the grilled chicken, better.
That’s good news though because it gives us a reason to go back and enjoy the reasonable prices at Warung Pondok all over again.
It’s not a fancy place and that’s quite alright by us, and once you have a bowl of their ginger fish soup, it will be just fine by you too.

Warung Sambie
The vegetarian options here are really good and their vegetarian nasi goreng may be the best we’ve tried anywhere.
They do an amazing banana spring roll set for dessert too which blew our mind. The Gado Gado is pretty good too.
One word of warning though, service here is so laid back it’s practically horizontal, don’t come in a rush to eat, it won’t happen.

Warung Sebit Sari
We love a grill that knows exactly what it’s about and here the star of the show is their amazing pork ribs.
You can see Nusa Lembongan from the dining area and that provides an amazing view that we wish could have more often.
It’s also a very cheap place for the islands and you may find yourself going back again and again for their fresh food and happy attitudes.

Fullmoon Bar & Restaurant
They specialize in live music and good times at the Fullmoon Bar & Restaurant and it won’t surprise you to learn that they open late.
Their singer has a very fine voice and it’s nice to spend the evening with his accompaniment to your meal.
We really enjoyed the breaded shrimp last time we were here.

Red Pomelo Bar & Restaurant
This recently opened place is rather excellent but it is a bit more expensive than some of the other local places.
Try the beef rendang though and you’ll be able to see that’s because of the quality of the ingredients that they use. You have to pay more for great fresh food on an island.
We’d take a date here, but it’s also great with friends and even colleagues too.

Warung Jukung
They’re very plant-friendly at Warung Jukung and vegans and vegetarians are well-catered to here. Fresh food is very fresh here, indeed.
It’s also family-friendly and you’ll find that children are made most welcome, indeed.
We had a seafood nasi goreng and some fried rice and it was super tasty. We watched some outriggers come ashore as we ate and that feels like the essence of a good time in Nusa Penida.

Sky @ Sanctum
Sky is a decent sky bar at a small hotel complex and it’s got pleasant views over the local bay.
The happy hour is great value for money and the food is not bad at all.
However, as there aren’t many sky bars here, you can end up queuing for a long time to get in.

Penida Mingan Resto & Bar
This resto-bar may serve the coldest Bintang in Bali, it’s the perfect way to end a day after playing in the heat of the Balinese sun.
It has a beautiful view over the beach from the dining area and if amazing views aren’t enough to sell you on this place, the food will be.
Try the tuna burger and enjoy the authentic local flavour in a new presentation. Yum.

This pleasant warung near the Angel Billabong is very good value and it’s always clean and hygienic.
The owner is kind and sweet and will make sure they guide you to an Indonesian treat that you’ll really love.

Acropora Bar & Restaurant
This new entrant to the local dining market has a spectacular setting that is guaranteed to light up your Instagram feed.
They have a swimming pool if you get here earlier in the day, so you can work up a thirst and some hunger while swimming.
We really enjoyed the chicken cheese roll and the standard margarita pizza here. The fried rice was pretty good too.

Our only complaint at this warung is the food comes in quite small portions, which is a shame because it’s super delicious.
The staff is very kind and smiles all the time (but not in a creepy fashion) and they really know their food.
We were pleasantly surprised by their burgers which give the local food a run for its money on the menu.

Yes, this warung is on the beach. What gave that away? Seriously, though, this is a great place to spend some time eating.
Nothing here is pre-prepared and it’s all cooked right out in the open in front of you. It doesn’t get fresher than that, right?
The sambal is absolutely excellent and it has the perfect balance of Balinese spices to excite the palate without overwhelming it.
