If you want to explore Gili Trawangan and really relax, we recommend staying at least two nights. The island is not big, and therefore, you can see and do a lot in one day.
Do note that the journey to and from this island can take up a large portion of your day.
Is Gili Trawangan a party island?
Yes, Gili Trawangan is quite the party island. The bars are packed almost every day of the week, especially in high season.

Which side of Gili Trawangan is the best?
There is not one particular side that is better, but the two sides do offer different things. If you’re staying on the east side, you’ll be near lots of restaurants and hotels, and you’ll also be near the party hotspots.
On the West Coast, however, you’ll experience a more relaxing atmosphere, but there are far fewer restaurants and hotels.
Gili Trawangan is not a big island and you can easily cycle from one side to the other. We recommend staying on the east side since it’s closer to the dock, but going to the west side with your luggage is perfectly doable with horse and carriage.
What is the best way to travel to Gili Trawangan?
The best way to travel to the Gili Islands is by boat. The harbour in Bali closest to Gili Trawangan would be Padang Bai.
Before you book your tickets, we would like to warn you about the crowds. Many different fast boat services operate in this area and it can get very chaotic at times.
Make sure you are at the harbour at least an hour before departure. If you fail to show up an hour early, you can be denied boarding. Tickets can be bought at local ticket offices or online.
