Ngurah Rai International Airport

Located just south of Bali’s main city, Denpasar, Ngurah Rai International Airport is the main entry point for island tourists. Established in 1931, the airport has undergone numerous improvements to accommodate the increasing number of travellers.

What makes Ngurah Rai International Airport truly special is its architecture deeply rooted in culture. The building itself exudes a captivating ambiance with relief gates adorning its exterior showcasing the artistic heritage of the island. Inside travelers are greeted with a mesmerizing experience that showcases the essence of culture through decorations. The soulful melodies of “gamelan” (Indonesian traditional music instruments) played live by artists fill the terminal immersing visitors in an unforgettable journey. Traditional Balinese music like rindik adds richness to the atmosphere creating an immersive experience, for all who pass through its gates.

Currency Exchange and Banking. When you arrive in Bali or before you depart, you can find various currency exchange booths and ATMs conveniently located within the airport, ensuring easy access to cash or currency conversion.

Transportation. Bali Airport offers several transportation options to various destinations on the island. Many hotels and villas offer airport pickup that can be pre-arranged, and you will be greeted by a driver on arrival at the airport. Alternatively, you can opt for taxi services or head to the Grab Lounge, conveniently situated just outside the Arrivals area near the car park.

The Grab Lounge serves as a popular pickup point for those booking a Grab ride. However, it’s worth noting that the fare for hailing a Grab from the airport is calculated differently compared to hailing one from outside the airport. To get a more budget-friendly rate, you can take a short 5-minute walk to exit the airport, open your Grab app, and place your car order from there. This way, you can enjoy a lower fare for your ride.

Bali SIM Card. Get connected as soon as you land with a SIM card from various local providers, including the region’s largest Telkomsel, Indosat or XL. SIM cards provide affordable calling rates and high-speed data connections for browsing the internet and staying connected with loved ones. Whether you’re purchasing a SIM card for voice calls, messaging, or data usage, the staff at the airport make the process quick and hassle-free, guiding you through the options and assisting with set up.

Visa on Arrival in Bali Airport. Please note that you will want to check online with your embassy or the airport website for the most updated information on visa requirements in Bali and Indonesia. There are two types of visas available at the airport – the free tourist visa, valid for 30 days and cannot be extended, and the Visa On Arrival, valid for 30 days but has the option for an extension. For most nationalities, acquiring a visa is a straightforward procedure. After disembarking, you can go to the immigration counter for a free tourist visa or stop at the VOA counter to pay for the extendable option. Friendly immigration officers are on hand to guide you through the process. Keep your passport, completed forms, and payment ready for smooth transitions. And while in Bali, please stay within your visa because the fine can be costly at IDR 1,000,000 per day.

Baggage Services. For any inquiries or assistance regarding baggage, the airport provides a dedicated baggage service counter where you can seek guidance or report any issues.
