Asmat Restaurant Amed @ Mathis Lodge Amed

Don’t expect a kids menu at this fine dining spot in the jungle with the most incredible ocean view in the entire area.

This is the place to take a date or go with a group for a special occasion. It’s much better value than some of the fine dining spots in other parts of the island too and they even offer a shuttle pick-up from the town to get you there!

This pleasant warung is hip and happening and has an excellent live band that entertains diners all night long.

The cocktails are cold, the food is reasonably priced and draws on a wide range of cuisines and it even has a top-notch vegetarian menu offering cold-pressed juices among other treats.

This warung is just set back from Lipah Beach and you can enjoy lovely views over the ocean as you enjoy the food here.

We recommend the Soto Ayam (a Balinese chicken soup) which is so tasty that we could eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

This seafront restaurant is in a great location and they serve a lot of the fresh catch of the day from the local fishermen.

We know that some backpackers think it’s a bit pricey but we found this restaurant to offer great value for money and to match it with excellent service.

If you’ve ever wanted to tackle an entire roasted pig (babi guling) you can pre-order one at Warung Sabar, but bring a lot of friends if you do, it will take a few days to eat it otherwise.

For a more modest but very tasty option, their seafood basket is super tasty and gives you a chance to taste most of the items on the menu.

This family-run warung is a short walk from the main drag and they make Balinese food with the freshest local ingredients possible.

The pork rendang was a real highlight of the menu and the fish curry was excellent too, we shall definitely be back next time we’re in the area.

This is a great place that specializes in Balinese and Italian foods, in particular, pasta and their pesto pasta is awesome.

It’s nice to sit in the garden at this charming restaurant and soak up the local charm and atmosphere.

di Lipah Warung

We found that we were welcomed to this warung with a hearty hello and a big smile and that’s just what we need to feel at home.

The food was very good and the Pepe Ikan was spectacular, the desserts were sweet and pleasant too. However, there’s not much of a view from this place, which is a shame.

Gusto Resto

This is an Italian restaurant in Amed and it makes no bones about it. The pizzas were very reasonable though we could have used a little more seasoning on them.

The owner also runs one of the local dive centres and will be happy to talk about things PADI-related if you ask.

Amed Sea View Warung

This is a great local restaurant with an emphasis on seafood and it’s got a pleasant view over the beach while you dine.

The calamari was really good, soft and tender rather than rubbery and overcooked and the portions were much larger than we’d expected for the price.

It may not be expensive, but that doesn’t mean they stint on service at Warung Amsha, this beachfront place is super welcoming and nothing is ever too much trouble.

They have an excellent vegetarian menu to go alongside the regular menu and the lak lak was super tasty.

Chef Ketut really knows his stuff when it comes to taking sea creatures and turning them into amazing meals.

Green Melon Warung

This is the first warung that we’d ever eaten Mahi Mahi in Amed and it was absolutely amazing when grilled up with a big Balinese salad as a side dish.

There’s a real emphasis on the homely touch at Green Melon and you’ll soon feel like one of the family here.

The menu is mainly Asian with a few other highights (we loved their guacamole which was the best we’d had in East Bali).

Try the grilled barracuda though if you want an amazing taste fresh from the sea that day. It’s so moreish!

Wayan’s Warung

Our Balinese friends all urged us to try Wayan’s as one of the most authentic examples of local cookery in the area and we weren’t disappointed.

Their sambal matah transformed some sate lilit ikan, griiled fish and nasi campur into a feast fit for a king.

Warung Ole is always busy and the first couple of times that we tried to go, we couldn’t get a seat. So turn up early to avoid disappointment.

The pizzas are super authentic and the view is one of the best in the area. They also have an incredible wine cellar to ensure you can wash it down with something good.

This beach restaurant offers lovely BBQ seafood with really smoky flavours for bargain pricces.

We tried the fresh tuna and were blown away with how tasty it was, it was one of the most delicious meals we had in a town full of great food.

Sails Restaurant

Sails is a very Western-oriented restaurant with a lovely view that makes it worth arriving before the sun goes down.

The lamb medallions were perfectly cooked and very tender. The fish in banana leaf was lovely too. We can heartily recommend their cocktail list and spent a happy evening sampling pretty much everything they had.

This is also a homestay and if you stay in the property you can enjoy their excellent breakfasts.

We should warn you that they have a dog onsite which can be a bit of a surprise when it wanders through the dining area but it’s friendly enough.

They catch their own fish for the evening meals here, which is just wonderful.

An interesting place in a Greek-owned hotel that specializes in Japanese and regional food. The prices are very low and the cocktails are incredible value.
