FAQs

Do Cinemas In Bali Play Movies In English? Are There English Cinemas In Bali?

Yes. In fact, the majority of Western movies will be played in English in movie theatres in Bali.

It is quite rare for a movie to be dubbed into Indonesian and most movies have Indonesian subtitles, instead.

Even if a movie is dubbed, you can probably find a performance of it in English with Indonesian subtitles.

You won’t find many other foreign language titles in Bali but when they do show, they will also be in the original language with subtitles.

Are There Any 3D Cinemas In Bali?

Yes, currently you can enjoy movies in 3D at the cinemas in Lippo Mall Kuta, Beachwalk and Galleria.

How Can I Watch Movies In Bali? Does Bali Have Movie Theaters?

There are so many movie theaters in Bali that you shouldn’t find yourself very far from a place to enjoy the latest movie from Hollywood.

Most movie theaters in Bali are in shopping malls but there are also independent cinemas around the island though you may need to travel a little further for them.

How Much Does It Cost To Go To The Cinema In Bali?

Cinema ticket prices in Bali start at 40,000 IDR for a seat in a standard hall to 100,000 IDR for a VIP Hall.

It’s worth noting that prices go up on weekends and holidays and may reach 200,000 IDR in a VIP Hall.

The first showings tend to be around noon and then the last showings end before midnight.

A VIP Hall will offer a more comfortable viewing experience and you will get a large reclining seat and a much wider armrest (better for balancing your popcorn on).

It’s also worth noting that VIP Halls tend to attract fewer cinema-goers and are easier to see movies in. They also have waitstaff that tend to be very helpful and attentive.

Not every cinema has a VIP Hall, however, and it’s worth checking with the venue before you go if this seating is a must for you.

The Cinema XXL chain calls VIP Hall seating “Premier” and in the Cinepolis Chain they’re known as “Gold Class.”

You can buy cinema tickets in Bali online, through the GoJek app (it’s under GoTix), the cinema chain apps or directly at the box office. It’s fairly rare for a showing to be sold out.

Why Are Cinemas So Cold In Bali?

Theaters in Bali tend to use incredible amounts of air conditioning. This is a good thing if you like to be chilled out when watching a movie, but it can be too much of a good thing and some people will want to take some warm clothes to feel comfortable.

No. There are IMAX screens in other parts of Indonesia but not in Bali. Level 21 Mall in Denpasar has the biggest screen in Bali but it’s not IMAX-sized.
