There’s nothing better than the natural beauty of a beautiful waterfall and sadly, this turns nearly every waterfall into a popular tourist attraction where you can barely see the waterfall for the volume of influencers in front of it.
Batu Belah Waterfall is a different prospect. This gorgeous waterfall in Jembrana Regency isn’t very well known and thus, when you get there, yu can have it practically all to yourself.
This is what you need to know to plan a visit to Batu Belah waterfall.
Note: Batu Belah Waterfall Is Also Known As Dewasana Waterfall
Naming conventions can occasionally get a bit confusing here on the island and the Batu Belah Waterfall can also be called Dewasana Waterfall.
That’s because Dewasana is the correct name for the waterfall, the “Batu Belah” comes from the name of a stone at the waterfall which is divided in two.
However, over time the site has become known by the name of the rock more than the original name of the waterfall. It’s useful to know both names, just in case you need to ask for directions – as some local residents will know it by one name and some by the other.
Where Is Batu Belah Waterfall?
Batu Belah Waterfall is in Dewasana, Pendem Village, Jembrana Sub District, Jembrana District, Jembrana Regency.
It’s about a 4-kilometer drive from the nearby Negara district.
How To Get To Batu Belah Waterfall?
One of the things that stops this tourist attraction from being overwhelmed by too many tourists is that it’s not on the usual tourist routes or right outside of Ngurah Rai Airport.
That means the best way to get to Batu Belah Waterfall is to hire a private car and driver. This isn’t expensive – a car. driver and fuel for an 8-hour day is usually 500,000 IDR (that’s $35 USD or $50 AUD).
You can visit more places once you’ve finished at Pendem Village too, such as the black sand beaches nearby or the rice fields of the Bali countryside (though it’s best to avoid them in harvest season as there’s not much to see at that time) and experience Bali the way that you want to experience it.
The Trek Down To The Waterfall
When you arrive at the car park, you will need to walk about 200 meters to get to the path down. It’s a steep slope without much in the way of steps and stairs.
In the wet season, in particular, the path will be very slippery and you will need to ensure that you have good grips on your shoes to stay upright.
It doesn’t sound like a long walk but many visitors find that it takes them about 20 minutes or so to get from the car park to where the waterfall is located and it’s better to take your time than to risk injury.
When Is The Best Time To Visit Batu Belah Waterfall?
The best time to visit any waterfall is at the end of the wet season when the water flows are at their peak and the waterfall is most impressive.
However, this waterfall doesn’t dry up during the dry season and there’s no bad time of year to visit, in fact, you may prefer coming during the dry season as it will be easier to get to the waterfall from the road.
Is There An Entrance Fee For Batu Belah Waterfall?
Yes, but it may depend on the day if you are actually charged it or not as the waterfall is very open to the world and there’s not always someone on duty to take your cash.
If you are asked to pay, it will be 20,000 IDR per person and you should only pay the official local representative and you should get a receipt in return.
What To Expect At Batu Belah Waterfall
The name “Batu Belah” means “split stone” and it’s because the cliff face is divided here to form a natural channel for the waterfall to flow down.
It’s quite dramatic even though it’s not, by any means, the largest or most spectacular waterfall in Bali.
There is a very pleasant natural lagoon at the bottom of the waterfall and you are welcome to swim there, however, if you want to go swimming, please be aware there are no changing facilities, etc. you will need to bring towels, swimming clothes, etc.
It is a place surrounded by natural beauty and you will find that the clear water lends itself, along with the rocks, to some spectacular photographs.
As it’s not one of the more popular waterfalls in Bali, it’s never crowded and you may find that you’re the only people you encounter on a trip here.
That makes it perfect for relaxing and meditating at this waterfall too.
